Position Overview

As an International Tax Manager, you will support the Cross-Border Tax Team in planning and executing international tax matters for clients, both ongoing and transactional. This is a hands-on role where you will contribute to a variety of multi-disciplinary mandates (Canadian tax, transfer pricing, international tax and tariff planning) involving Canadian companies abroad and foreign companies investing in Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop Canadian international tax planning strategies, and prepare Excel financial models to illustrate the benefits. 
  • Review and analyze corporate financial information, research, and determine appropriate tax treatment for a wide variety of transactions.
  • Tax planning and compliance for Canadian outbound and inbound foreign affiliate investments including preparation of surplus calculations, FAPI calculations, Pillar Two calculations and Country-by-Country Reporting, maintaining data on tax attributes, monitoring intercompany transactions (e.g. loans, cash repatriation, etc.), and supporting withholding tax compliance.
  • Prepare client deliverables such as transaction flow diagrams and technical papers.
  • Prepare and review Canadian tax and information returns (T1134, T106, T1135).
  • Prepare technical research and presentations for internal learning purposes.
  • Assist with tariff and corporate income tax planning and execution.
  • Assist with supervising, mentoring, and training junior team members.

Your Qualifications

  • Minimum 4 to 7 years of work experience in Canadian/International Tax.
  • Ability to analyze complex issues and transactions including reviewing and researching technical tax materials and legislation, identifying alternatives and assessing their strengths and weaknesses, and making practical recommendations.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Canadian income tax rules and filing requirements with respect to foreign affiliates to ensure compliance with the Income Tax Act (Canada).
  • Undergraduate degree with major in accounting, finance, or economics.
  • Masters in Taxation (nice to have).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Holds a CPA designation or is currently pursuing (preferred).
  • Experience wiith transfer pricing (an asset).
  • Experience with TaxPrep, CaseWare, or similar software (an asset).
