Manager, Tax Preparation Services
How does the role impact the organization?
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Tax Preparation Services, you will provide leadership and expertise in tax return preparation services while providing ongoing support to the Private Client and Trust Services divisions at RJL. The position offers the opportunity to become a key resource in one of Canada’s largest markets, joining an established team of tax professionals located in Vancouver and Montreal who work together to deliver exemplary tax preparation services across the country.
A critical objective for incumbents in this role is to enhance the client experience while supporting investment advisors and trust officers. The individual will provide tax preparation services and support tax planning services with a particular emphasis on broadening the dialogue with clients, and their overall value proposition, while assisting firm efforts to consolidate assets and increase revenues.
What will your role be responsible for?
Client Relationship Management
- Partner effectively with the private client division, trust company division, investment advisors, trust officers, and its legal, tax and financial planning groups to expand the tax services business in the region;
- Provide educational materials on tax planning and tax preparation via presentations, written materials, and individual consultations; and
Tax Expertise
- Leadership in the delivery of tax preparation and planning services for personal, corporate, trust and estate clients of Raymond James (T1, T2, T3);
- Maintain high quality control by reviewing tax returns and other work done by team members for accuracy and completeness; and
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge and understanding of the Federal Income Tax Act and the Quebec Income Tax Act
Leadership
- Accountable for engagement planning
- Provide outstanding client service. Develop proactive strategies to deepen relationships with both investment advisors and trust officers;
- Demonstrate and provide leadership to ensure efficient processes and systems are implemented in the delivery of tax preparation services; and
- Provide on the job training, coaching, feedback to assist with development of associates and senior associates in the tax preparation team.
Business Strategy and Executive
- Create effective communication and marketing strategies to support and grow the business;
- Collaborate with colleagues in across the country to provide a unified delivery of tax services across Canada; and
- Contribute to strategic and operational planning related to client and practice management, as well as the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes.
- Hire and build a team of associates as necessary to support the tax preparation services business.
Risk Management and Control
- Liaise with compliance, operations, legal and other related lines of business to resolve system, administrative, risk management and legal issues pertaining to the delivery of tax preparation services;
- Take lead on resolving complex business/client challenges and collaborate with clients, team members and stakeholders when required; and
- Other duties and projects as assigned.

What do we expect from you?
To qualify for this opportunity, you possess:
- Fundamental knowledge of investment concepts, practices, and procedures used in the wealth management or financial services industry;
- Knowledge of personal, corporate, trust, and estate tax preparation and planning;
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with a willingness and ability to learn new applications;
- Exercise critical thinking and analytics to identify and resolve diverse, complex and ambiguous issues in a timely and practical manner.
- The ability to work within deadlines in a high-volume and demanding environment while maintaining a high level of service and an imperative attention to detail;
- Demonstrate advanced face-to-face, email, videoconferencing, and telephone etiquette and relationship management skills;
- Demonstrate a professional manner to establish and maintain effective working relationships through respect and authenticity at all levels of the organization;
- Collaborate with a diverse network of clients, prospects and business partners;
- Employ professional values including sound judgment, integrity, going the extra mile for clients, and being tenaciously driven to achieve results;
- Exercise tact and discretion in the handling of confidential information; and
- Bilingualism in French and English is required.
Educational/Previous Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance or related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education; and
- Completion of the CICA In-Depth Tax Course or Masters in Taxation.
Licenses/Certifications
- Accounting designation required (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA) with 4+ years’ public practice experience in personal, corporate, trust, and estate tax preparation and planning; and
- Canadian Securities Course, MTI or TEP designation would be an asset.

Salary Range: BC (based on Education, Work Experience, etc) $80,000-120,000 in addition to competitive performance bonuses/incentives.
