Here Is What You Will Be Doing
As a Clinical Epidemiologist, you will play a crucial role in developing and conducting systematic reviews of clinical literature to assess the effectiveness of various health technologies. Your work will directly inform the Ontario Health Technology Advisory Committee's recommendations on public funding and the use of health technologies in Ontario. You will collaborate with cross-functional team members, including medical librarians, health economists, patient engagement specialists, and project coordinators, as well as external stakeholders such as clinical experts and organizational partners.

As a Clinical Epidemiologist, you will play a crucial role in developing and conducting systematic reviews of clinical literature to assess the effectiveness of various health technologies. Your work will directly inform the Ontario Health Technology Advisory Committee's recommendations on public funding and the use of health technologies in Ontario. You will collaborate with cross-functional team members, including medical librarians, health economists, patient engagement specialists, and project coordinators, as well as external stakeholders such as clinical experts and organizational partners.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Analysis:
- Lead and develop systematic reviews to assess the effectiveness of health technologies.
- Establish research questions, inclusion and exclusion criteria, and methods for data synthesis or meta-analysis.
- Collaborate with clinical experts and stakeholders to contextualize scientific evidence.
- Critically appraise published literature on health technologies and clinical interventions.
- Present scientific evidence to the Ontario Health Technology Advisory Committee.
- Regularly update and inform the Manager, Clinical Reviews on all aspects of the clinical review process.
- Communicate with project managers and coordinators to ensure deliverables are completed on time.
- Lead the preparation of reports and presentation materials, providing expertise on the interpretation of findings.
- Identify and consult with subject matter experts to contextualize the clinical review process.
- Liaise with external stakeholders and organizations in consultation with the Manager and Director, HTA.
- Develop relationships with colleagues within the team, across the organization, and externally to understand clinical context and needs.
- Collaborate with health economists and patient engagement analysts to align economic and patient engagement analyses with the clinical review component of the health technology assessment.
Here is what you will need to be successful:
- Master’s degree in epidemiology, clinical epidemiology, health research methodology, biostatistics, or health technology assessment.
- 2+ years of experience conducting health technology assessments and/or systematic reviews.
- Certification or formal training in Systematic Reviews/Health Technology Assessment Training, Cochrane Authorship Training, Evidence-Based Clinical Practice or equivalent.
- Demonstrated proficiency in systematic review methodology and meta-analysis, Cochrane Collaboration methodology, observational study methodology and randomized clinical trial methodology, data collection, and statistical analysis sufficient to research and analyze information and interpret the resulting data in relation to research objectives and identified program/policy issues.
- Demonstrated proficiency in the principles and application of critical appraisal of scientific research, specifically using the GRADE methodology
- Demonstrated proficiency in use of Microsoft Office suite. Proficiency with statistical analysis software packages (e.g., SAS, Stata, R) and systematic review software including RevMan.
- Demonstrated proficiency in leading research projects and preparing reports and presentations to communicate methods, findings and conclusions of clinical reviews to various audiences.
- Judgment, planning and organizational skills to ensure that research, analysis and information needs and requirements are established and met, with priorities and deadlines being observed in support of the achievement of overall program goals.
- Advisory and communication skills to collaborate with a broad range of contacts, to deliver analytical reports and to provide expert input at committee meetings
- Strong written communication skills to prepare information analysis reports and lead presentations.
- Project planning and management. Adept at balancing concurrent tasks and projects and work effectively in a dynamic work environment.
- Critical thinking.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and exercise sound judgment in setting priorities, identify issues and determine action required.
- Ability to work collaboratively to determine work objectives as well as in self-directed manner as defined within the overall context of the project plan.
