We are looking for a skilled individual to join our team as a Warehouse Shipping Supervisor!

Job Summary

Manages coordination of the flow of products manufactured internally, or by third parties to customers, and develop enhancements to optimize manpower fulfilling daily shipping requirements. Directs, coordinates and supervise the overall warehouse activities of the shipping/receiving department in shipping materials and/or receiving products in a union environment.

Develops and maintains a quality control process within span of control and utilizes the quarantine area for non-conforming products.

Essential Functions

  • Adhere to the company’s safety program to ensure safe and accident-free work environment.
  • Has the primary duty of supervising a department of 5 or more subordinates across two shifts.
  • Effectively communicates departmental and plant wide goals to employees in a productive manner.
  • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and observes workers to ensure compliance.
  • Oversees receiving, staging, picking, packing, shipping, inventory management, and documentation pertaining to shipping and receiving to ensure accuracy, completeness and condition of shipments.
  • Optimizes efficient layouts, workflows, manpower, and utilization of warehouse space.
  • Utilizes a warehouse management system (WMS), enterprise resource system (Oracle ERP), or other system to track and analyze processes and performance.
  • Data entry/tracking into Oracle ERP system pertaining to shipments as required.
  • Discipline, coach and train employees.
  • Communicate effectively within the organization and proactive in finding solutions to issues.
  • Work with Shipping Clerk to schedule daily pick ups with customers and carriers to meet our STP targets.
  • Directs the movement of materials from shipping platform to storage/delivery locations. Ensures all trucks are loaded in a complete and timely manner and depart on time.
  • Resolves worker grievances/complaints or submits unsettled grievances to next level of management for action.
  • Participates in the Lean Daily Management process.
  • Carry out regular inventory reconciliation of supplied materials.
  • Ensure availability of stock as to reduce/eliminate shortages.
  • Lead all inventory related events to include cycle counts and physical inventories. Completes RCCA (Root Cause Correct Action) on larger count discrepancies.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to navigate in a windows based computer environment with experience in Excel and Word.
  • Inventory Control and optimization.
  • OSHA Standards & Compliance.
  • Safety Management.
  • Warehouse Control.
  • ERP Systems (Oracle).
  • Scanning on the floor into Oracle.
  • Truck loading, skids capacity, weights, cross border shipments.
  • Inventory cycle counts.
  • Quarantine experience.

Education And Experience

  • 4 to 6 years experience in a Shipping role within a high volume distribution environment.
  • Understanding of ERP/MRP systems required. Oracle preferred.
  • Critical Thinking — Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Monitoring — Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Management of Personnel Resources — Motivating, developing, and directing people as they work, identifying the best people for the job.
  • Judgment and Decision Making — Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Strong computer skills including experience with Microsoft Excel.
  • Superior communication skills and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to effectively balance competing priorities in a fast paced, high stress environment.
  • Capable of understanding the entire value stream while operating at detailed functional levels.
  • High School Diploma
  • 4+ years of Canadian experience supervising shipping/receiving staff preferably in union warehouse environment.
  • Organizing & scheduling manpower, 3rd party trucks, intra company trucks.
  • This position requires the ability to work in Canada without sponsorship or immigration restrictions.



Work Environment And Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee may frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
