About the Role

As the CEO / Business Lead of Hero, you’ll be the commercial co-founder responsible for traction. You’ll operate alongside a technical co-founder within Martell Ventures’ proven incubation model to validate the market, close early revenue, and scale fast.

This is a high-ownership, zero-to-one role focused entirely on customer discovery, execution, and growth. No fundraising required, just build something that gets paid.

What You'll Do

Go-to-Market Execution

  • Lead customer discovery to validate an urgent recruiting pain
  • Drive outbound, run demos, close deals, and increase retention
  • Craft messaging and positioning that resonate with buyers
  • Build repeatable sales processes from scratch

Revenue & Traction

  • Own early revenue: convert prospects and scale revenue quickly
  • Translate customer insights into product feedback and roadmap priorities
  • Report traction metrics weekly (MRR, CAC, LTV, churn)
  • Serve as the external face of Hero: from partners to advisors

Speed & Clarity

  • Move fast with limited resources and without the need to fundraise
  • Act without waiting for specs: ship funnels, messaging, and results weekly

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years experience in B2B SaaS, marketplaces, or recruiting — as a founder, commercial lead, or operator
  • Demonstrated success in outbound sales: cold outreach, demos, and closing from zero
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills — clear, persuasive, and fast
  • Proven ability to drive early revenue and build repeatable sales systems
  • Strong analytical mindset with comfort using KPIs to guide decisions (MRR, CAC, churn, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with CRM tools, sales funnels, and GTM execution
  • A bias for action, self-direction, and comfort operating in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a founding or co-founding role
  • Background in recruiting, HR tech, or marketplace business models
  • Familiarity with lean startup principles and iterative product development
  • Experience working within incubators, accelerators, or venture studios
