Maintenance - Malaspina (Long Term Care)

WestCana is looking for full-time Maintenance person with a passion for the elderly to join one of our teams to support our residents in Nanaimo.

Positions Information:

  • Full-time: Monday - Friday
  • Wage: $31 /hour
  • Location: 100 Eleventh Street, Nanaimo, BC V9R 6R6

Maintenance Must Haves:

  • Building Service Worker Certificate and Institutional Aide Certificate
  • Successful completion of secondary school or equivalent.
  • Legally allowed to work in Canada.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to organize work and work under strict time constraints.
  • Upon Hire and annual maintenance of Valid certification in WHMIS.
  • Satisfactory proof of COVID-19 vaccinations.
  • Passes and complies with Ministry of Justice Criminal Record Check upon hire and every 5 years thereafter.

Maintenance Nice to Haves:

  • Institutional cleaning experience is preferred.
  • Certificate from a program in general maintenance or extensive experience as a maintenance worker, with supervisory skills is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a Long-Term Care facility is preferred.

Maintenance Responsibilities:

  • Plan, implements and conducts daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly schedule of preventative maintenance activities to ensure the facility and equipment are safe and in good working order.
  • Provide minor building, electrical, plumbing and equipment repair services to ensure the optimum functioning of the physical facility and equipment.
  • Perform routine HVAC maintenance, including monthly and daily tasks such as replacing filters, greasing Air Handling Units (AHUs), and maintaining recirculation pumps.
  • Monitor and service the facility’s extensive mechanical systems, ensuring optimal operation and efficiency.
  • Identify and investigate physical deficiencies and equipment malfunctions and take the appropriate corrective action.
  • Address preventive maintenance tasks and promptly respond to mechanical system issues as they arise.
  • Source and orders services/supplies/parts focusing on obtaining the highest quality for the most reasonable price.
  • Liaise with outside suppliers/contractors to facilitate the repair and replacement of damaged or broken equipment.
  • Responsible for the department’s compliance to safety and environmental policies.
  • Responsible for the collection and disposal of recycling materials, shredding materials, and trash collection.
  • Notifies management of need for repairs, and cleaning snow or debris from sidewalk.
  • Review maintenance log and takes corrective action to ensure problems are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Supports the facility Safety Program and monitors safety in the living and working environment, responds to and reports hazards, near misses, incidents, accidents and unsafe or faulty equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
