Job Summary

As a Treaty Reinsurance Underwriter you will be responsible for assisting the Property & Casualty Treaty team in Toronto with underwriting both renewal and new business treaty submissions, evaluating risks, and developing tailored reinsurance solutions for our clients.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage all underwriting related aspects of the assigned treaties which includes all internal and external communication with cedants, brokers, colleagues in Canada and Hannover
  • Participate in the underwriting strategy and processes, including evaluation of submissions, analyzing and interpreting exposures, determining coverage in Canada
  • Calculate appropriate risk premium, exercise discretion and independent judgment in the analysis and evaluation of risk assessments.
  • Negotiate within the limits of delegated authority and in accordance with internal guidelines, underwriting procedures and controls to achieve profile objectives.
  • Support the business planning and forecasting process.
  • Proactively engage with all stakeholders within the Group and build relationships with broker and clients with the objective of identifying new business opportunities.
  • Working collaboratively with in a team environment assisting all members of the team.

You come equipped with

Educational Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, international management, mathematics or a related field.

Experience & Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of underwriting experience in the insurance or reinsurance industry.
  • Solid knowledge of the Canadian insurance marketplace.
  • Experience handling complex accounts and working in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; French proficiency is an asset.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • High attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and underwriting/pricing tools.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
