ECE RELIEF RESOURCE – FULL TIME (8 Hours) – EARLY LEARNING AND CHILD CARE CENTRE


PLASP Child Care Services is a charitable organization operating on a not-for-profit basis, providing high quality early learning and child care, for children up to 12 years of age. PLASP operates in more than 240 schools providing before school, lunch, and after school programs and 38 full-day early learning and child care centres and six EarlyON locations for children from 0 – 6 years.

The ECE Relief Resource candidate will be asked to commute to various PLASP Programs for their shift and must be comfortable with this travel commitment.


THE POSITION INVOLVES…

  • Providing Relief in the absence of Early Learning and Child Care Centre staff members.
  • Opening or closing the centres requested by their immediate manager
  • Providing direction and leadership to other centre staff, children and students on placement or volunteers
  • Following the Ministry of Education licensed requirements as per the Child Care and Early Years Act (CCEYA)
  • Establishing and maintaining a safe, warm and caring environment in which high quality early learning and child care programs can operate.
  • Leading a team of educators and staff within the child care centre to meet PLASP’s mission and vision as well as following all internal policies and procedures to comply or exceed Ministry of Education standards.
  • Planning, developing and implementing stimulating and developmentally appropriate activities for children, following the Ministry of Education’s How does Learning Happen? (HDLH?) Ontario’s pedagogy for the early years and PLASP standards.
  • Using the High Scope philosophy, lead children through a plan/do/review sequence within an active learning, play based approach

THE PREFERRED CANDIDATE WILL HAVE…


  • An Early Childhood Education Diploma and be a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE)
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience preferred in a licensed child care centre
  • Knowledge and understanding of the CCEYA and practical experience in the Ministry of Education’s mandated pedagogy “How Does Learning Happen?”
  • Knowledge and practical experience of the High Scope curriculum is considered an asset
  • Strong supervisory experience
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to be physically able to participate with children in the centre and outdoors
  • A valid Driver’s License and daily access to a vehicle
  • A clear valid Vulnerable Sector Criminal reference Check, dated within the last six months
  • Valid and up-to-date immunizations
  • A valid Standard First Aid, with level C CPR
  • A valid Food Handler’s Certificate
