Purpose

Provides strategic direction, leadership and oversight for Business Solutions & Transformation in Finance globally ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are supported in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

The VP, Business Solutions & Transformation architects and executes the roadmap that redefines how Finance delivers value, driving transformation at the intersection of people, process, data, and technology. This role is key to reimagine the way Finance operates, embed automation and AI, and deliver scalable solutions that elevate insight, efficiency, and regulatory strength. The VP, Business Solutions & Transformation leads with vision, builds with precision, and influences at the highest levels to drive meaningful, lasting impact across the organization.

Accountabilities

  • Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Enterprise Transformation Leadership
      • Lead large-scale, cross-functional strategic transformation programs that deliver enterprise outcomes — enabling a faster close to reporting cycle, including GL/subledger modernization, cloud-based reporting, regulatory data enhancements, and automation use cases.
      • Guide program teams in building integrated project and program plans — ensuring proper resourcing, milestone definition, and management of interdependencies.
      • Partner with cross-functional transformation teams to drive alignment, foster collaboration, and embed lasting change across the enterprise.
      • Ensure enterprise initiatives impacting upstream/downstream accounting and reporting processes are compliant with established policies, maintaining integrity of financial accounting and reporting and executed with appropriate change management activities.
  • Finance Strategy Execution
      • Translate strategic goals into executable initiatives.
      • Champion agile delivery models, build high-performance delivery teams, and ensure on-time, on-budget, and on-scope execution.
  • Portfolio Governance & Prioritization
      • Design, lead and manage Finance’s transformation portfolio governance, including prioritization frameworks, C-suite performance dashboards, risk reviews, and escalation protocols.
  • Technology & Automation Delivery
      • Develop finance technology strategy and roadmap, partnering with Technology, Risk, GBS, and vendors to deliver next-gen finance systems.
      • Champion AI and automation — including reconciliations, regulatory testing, and predictive analytics — from pilot through scaled deployment.
  • Finance Enablement & Insight Delivery
      • Collaborate with Finance leaders across Business Lines to enable Chief Accountant’s mandate of delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting that supports strategic decision-making, ensures regulatory compliance, and drives operational efficiency across the enterprise.
      • Drive improvements to tooling, processes, and data governance.
  • Change Management & Communications
    • Own the change agenda — from stakeholder mapping and communication planning to training and user adoption strategies that ensure seamless transformation delivery.
    • Directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
    • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
    • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviours; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

    Education / Experience / Other Information

    • CPA or equivalent professional designation required
    • MBA or master’s in finance, Strategy, or Business preferred
    • Strong executive communication skills and comfort presenting to Board, C-suite, and regulators.
    • Deep stakeholder management experience — including Technology, Risk, Internal Audit, and Business Finance15+ years of progressive experience in finance transformation, controllership, enterprise program delivery, or finance operations within a global bank or advisory firm.
    • 7+ years of experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, or strategic operations preferred — especially in roles involving financial insight delivery or operating model design.
    • Proven leadership of high-impact teams and cross-functional initiatives across Finance, Technology, and Business.
    • Experience with ERP, subledger, or GL modernization (e.g., Oracle, Workday Financials)
    • Demonstrated success in leading enterprise change in regulated environments.
    • Recognized in the local market as an expert with the ability to influence change.
    • Visionary Execution – blend big-picture strategy with execution discipline to drive measurable enterprise outcomes.
    • Transformation Depth – Proven leader of ERP, GL/subledger, and process transformation initiatives in complex, regulated environments.
    • Finance Fluency – Deep understanding of Finance operations, accounting, reporting, and regulatory frameworks.
    • Change Champion – Inspires change with clarity and resilience, navigating ambiguity to accelerate adoption.
    • Governance & Control-Minded – Balances speed and risk, embedding control rigor in all transformation work.
    • Strategy Alignment – Sets organization priorities/framework and strategy (medium term; 1-3 years) by translating the all-bank vision for Global Finance.
    • Direction Setting – Contributes to the long-term direction and operating priorities within Global Finance.
    • Leads through leaders – Sets execution strategy and enables achievement of end-to-end results.

    Working Conditions

    Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence. Limited travel internationally.
