MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources management (or related field) with continued education in the field of Human Resources (HR)

SPECIAL TRAINING:

  • Privacy training for health care settings provided

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3-5 years in the field of HR management

  • HR experience in the health care sector an asset

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs):

Corporate Knowledge

o Demonstrates knowledge of corporate purpose, mission, values, business definition, key objectives, current corporate goals, and programs and services.

o Demonstrates knowledge of privacy legislation as it pertains to both health care and business operations, as well as internal knowledge of privacy policies and procedures

o Demonstrates knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) and Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) policies and procedures

o Demonstrates knowledge of Employment Standards (Alberta) affiliated legislation, including Human Rights

  • Knowledge and expertise in HR best practices, policies, and procedures

  • Significant knowledge of full-cycle HR processes with skills in performance evaluations, conflict resolution, negotiation, employee motivation, and other related skills

  • A strong understanding of current regulations and trends in HR

  • Excellent judgement, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

  • Excellent mediation and conflict resolution skills

  • Proficient in MS Office and use of general office equipment

  • Working knowledge of HR metrics, data analysis, and reporting

  • Excellent emotional intelligence (EI), team building, and interpersonal mediation skills

  • Effective communication skills (written, oral, auditory)

  • Ability and desire to:

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES:

I. MAIN FUNCTION(S):

The Human Resource Generalist (HRG) is the backbone of our most vital asset – our people! Reporting to the People & Culture Manager (PCM), the HRG is responsible for ensuring our team is comprised of humble, hungry, and smart individuals by supporting management in hiring, training, performance management, and advisory services. The HRG oversees the onboarding of new employees, training regarding policies and procedures, and advises employees and management. The HRG will be well versed in the laws, regulations, and best practices related to hiring, onboarding, training regarding policies and procedures, performance management, and termination of employees and is able to coach managers effectively in these areas.

II. POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leadership

o Creates strong synergies between all business units, promoting corporate culture through team building and collaborative techniques

o Responds to patient and staff concerns, escalating when necessary

o Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending meetings, educational workshops, and establishing professional networks

o Identifies and recommends continuous improvement initiatives and risk mitigation strategies to achieve operational efficiencies and support quality performance

o Participates in legislative requirements

  • Directs, and coordinates HR business unit activities in alignment with the vision, goals, and objectives of the company including:

o Ensures the development and maintenance of human resource strategies

o Implements and administers employee policies and promotes positive employee relations

o Monitors performance-related issues and implements changes that can increase productivity

o Provides recruiting, screening, assessment, selection, and onboarding support to managers

o Maintains personnel records, including learning and development records and credentials

o Develops a sound plan of organization, regularly evaluating business unit performance, and adjusting plans and/or performance as needed

o Establishes, improves, and maintains policies and procedures

o Manages termination-related matters and prepares termination and severance letters

o Develops training and provides support to management and employees

o Establishes and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) for business unit and contractors

o HR management, including executing and terminating agreements, and holding vendors accountable to agreements and human resources strategies

  • Payroll and Benefits Administration

o Assists in the proper setup of staff in the payroll system for time reporting and payroll administration as necessary

  • Project Management and Participation

o Supports projects related to human resources through leadership and/or participation as appropriate

III. REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

Consultation with the PCM must occur when:

  • Development and/or implementation of initiatives indicates potential exposure or risk to G23 that exceeds acceptable levels, even when mitigation tactics have been considered
  • A notable change to direction, strategy, or key initiative which will impact market alignment, patient or operational outcomes, or financial position
  • Anything that may have significant public consequences or interest (e.g., media attention, etc.) that a reasonable person would expect the Chief Operating Officer (COO) to be informed
