The Role: We are looking for our next Buyer – Raw Materials within our Canada Raw Materials team. The Buyer will be the team member with an extra focus on agronomy and will also be responsible for coordinating and transacting strategic sourcing, ensuring effective implementation of sourcing strategies specific to the pea category, and managing long-term partnerships with key strategic suppliers.

This position is located in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

What You’ll Do:

• Be the team agronomy subject matter expert.

• Develop and execute supply base segmentation strategies and sourcing strategies using crop data.

• Develop sustainable crop programs and evaluate crop varieties from breeding programs.

• Manage the pre-qualification process and ensure traceability processes are followed.

• Monitor crop growth and develop monthly grower bulletins.

• Manage the entire purchase cycle, including contract negotiation and SAP system entry.

• Maintain up-to-date raw material market analysis and provide price forecasts.

• Develop commodity price risk management strategies and deliver savings from cost savings programs.

• Foster mutually beneficial relationships with key suppliers and address supplier issues.

What You’ll Need:

Education:

• BS or BA degree in Crop Science, Agronomy, or Ag Business, with relevant field experience.

Experience:

• Minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience in agronomy or ag business-related field, preferably in pea/pulse markets.

• Experienced negotiator, preferably in a multinational environment.

Work Environment: Hybrid, Typically about 2-3 days in the office and the other remotely. Subject to change. Need to be able to work from office as needed or as requirements change

Physical Demands:

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position.

Business Travel: Business trips: 25%. Typically visits to growers.
