Who we need

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Student Services, we have a newly created opportunity for a Student Care Coordinator on our Student Wellness team. As the first point of contact for on-site and online students experiencing varied challenges, you will provide holistic, student-centred support through triage, de-escalation, and case coordination. You will assess needs, and facilitate warm referrals to internal or external services, collaborating to connect students with the right services at the right time.

This is a full-time, campus-based role working Monday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm at our New Westminster site.

What’s in it for you

Impact. This is the opportunity to take your passion and dedication for helping others to triage crises and connect students to the resources they need. As the first line of support for students seeking help, you will witness the tangible difference you make to their lives, ensuring they feel empowered and heard.

Exposure. This is an opportunity to be a trusted advocate and guide for a diverse student population across diploma, undergraduate, and graduate programs at a national level, expanding your expertise as part of the Wellness team. You will build and nurture relationships with internal and external stakeholders, collaborating to provide warm, coordinated handoffs, ensuring continuity of care and a consistent student experience.

Influence. As part of a student-centred team dedicated to proactive and compassionate care, you will contribute to a culture of responsiveness and well-being by helping faculty and staff better understand how to support students of concern. You will identify emerging trends and bring forward insights to improve services and promote a healthy and inclusive campus culture.

Career development. Yorkville University is in an exciting growth phase, with new programs, new leaders, and renewed energy around campus transformation. You will build experience in a non-clinical case management model, working at the intersection of wellness, accessibility, academic advising, and student affairs. You will stay current on student support practices, including trauma-informed approaches, risk identification, and care referral protocols. With free access to our Master’s programs after one year, and deep network connections, this is a place to lay the foundation for your career in social work, counselling, or another area of student services or education if that interests you.

As our new Student Care Coordinator, you will:

  • Be the first point of contact. You will respond to student concerns with empathy, offering support for issues related to mental health, personal stress, academic challenges, or community disruptions. You will conduct holistic needs assessments and develop tailored action plans or referrals that guide students to appropriate resources.
  • Triage and de-escalate sensitive situations. You will coordinate timely and warm handoffs to accessibility, academic advising, student finance, registrar services, emergency contacts, or other appropriate external supports.
  • Collaborate. You will consult with faculty and staff on how to respond to students of concern and participate in early alert and care team processes. You will stay up to date on referral pathways, campus services, and community support related to student well-being. You will collaborate with other departments on campus or online events. Assist with creating standard operating procedures for the Wellness team.
  • Track. You will monitor student cases through follow-ups and interdepartmental collaboration to ensure coordinated and continuous care. You will maintain detailed, confidential records of student interactions in accordance with institutional policies and privacy legislation.
  • Champion and promote. You will support wellness campaigns and awareness efforts that promote help-seeking behaviours and connect students to support resources. You will identify emerging needs in the student population and report on trends to inform planning and service enhancements. You will facilitate and promote our services to the YU community - students, faculty and staff.

What you bring:

  • The education and experience. You have a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Social Work, Psychology, Education, or Student Affairs. You have experience in student support, case management, or a related role in a post-secondary or community setting.
  • The knowledge. You understand how to assess risk, triage concerns, and respond with care. You are familiar with mental health support systems and non-clinical referral processes. You apply trauma-informed and equity-informed practices to ensure every student feels respected and heard. You are knowledgeable about privacy and confidentiality protocols and can apply them with rigour.
  • The interpersonal skills. You are a skilled communicator and active listener who brings calm and professionalism to high-stress or emotionally charged situations. You can build trust quickly, collaborate effectively with faculty and staff, and advocate for student needs. You bring sound judgement, cultural awareness, and a student-first mindset to every interaction. You are flexible and able to adjust your approach based on the needs of individual students and evolving institutional priorities.
  • The collaboration. You work well within a multidisciplinary environment and know how to navigate complex systems to find timely solutions. You are comfortable consulting with a range of campus partners and contributing to early alert or care team processes. You know when and how to take ownership and convey your position and next steps with confidence.
  • The organizational skills. You are highly organized and able to manage multiple cases, priorities, and follow-ups simultaneously. You document clearly and consistently and are confident using case management tools and software. You are comfortable using virtual meeting rooms to connect with online students.
  • The flexibility. You are available to respond to urgent or time-sensitive student situations and adjust your hours as needed to support students in crisis.

Compensation: $58,000 - 65,000 CAD per annum
