We are currently seeking an experienced Intermediate Mechanical Designer to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with experience in managing the mechanical design cycle from quotation to production, while ensuring project schedules and budget constraints are met. You will be responsible for coordinating mechanical activities, producing design deliverables, and supporting manufacturing phases in coordination with electrical and software teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the Mechanical Design Cycle from inception through prototyping up to production to meet the project schedule and budget constraints.
  • Coordinate full life cycle of mechanical activities as a lead resource and attend customer meetings;
  • Design & assembly of custom system racks for housing custom enclosures and system equipment;
  • Create layout drawings for PCB/CCAs and custom electronic enclosures;
  • Responsible for production of deliverables, which include design calculations, specifications, procedures, analyses, project documentation, engineering support, study reports and various 3rd-party submissions.
  • Integrate mechanical and electrical equipment into a system-level rack;
  • Package electronic/mechanical hardware into custom enclosures in accordance with specification documents.
  • Design assemblies and custom-fabricated parts on SolidWorks;
  • Create BOMs and manage data on PLM software;
  • Apply problem-solving skills during early concept, prototype, and production development phases;
  • Analyze and validate customer engineering drawings;
  • Identify appropriate tools, fixtures, and equipment required for the project;
  • Source 3rd party components and analyze BOM to meet the target cost for unit production.
  • Experience of using manufacturing methods such as CNC Machining, Sheet Metal Design, 3D Printing, and Injection Moulding (nice to have).
  • Proven experience in heat management optimization
  • Provide support during the manufacturing, assembly, debugging, and integration phase in coordination with the electrical & software teams;
  • Provide visibility in work that is in progress and report effectively to the Lead Engineer/Project manager;
  • Travel to customer sites.

Basic Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of mechanical design experience – experience related to electronic enclosures and circuit card assembly preferred.
  • Experience as a mechanical engineer in a full development cycle (design, quotations, fabrication, inbound inspection, assembly, design testing/validation).
  • Experience in creating detailed part drawings, assembly drawings, and supplementary engineering documents in accordance with aerospace standards.
  • Experience creating layout drawings and enclosures for custom circuit card assemblies.
  • Must be experienced with hands-on mechanical equipment assembly.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-810 or DO-160G is an asset.
  • Experience with producing Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Familiarity with Systems Level Design and Integration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
