The Lead MHE Technician plays a pivotal role in organizing workload, delegating tasks, and ensuring the continuous availability of MHE for business operations.

The Lead MHE Technician plays a pivotal role in organizing workload, delegating tasks, and ensuring the continuous availability of MHE for business operations.
What You Will Do:
- Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to MHE Technicians on diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining MHE equipment.
- Assign daily work orders and delegate tasks to the MHE Technician team, optimizing workflow and resource allocation.
- Assess repair needs for all MHE, prioritizing critical repairs to minimize operational downtime.
- Review completed repair and maintenance work performed by MHE Technicians to ensure adherence to established standards, manufacturer specifications, and safety regulations.
- Perform advanced preventive maintenance and complex repairs on MHE, including but not limited to electrical systems, motors, batteries, hydraulic systems, and control systems, with a specialized focus on Crown and Raymond equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve intricate electrical system issues in MHE, utilizing advanced diagnostic tools to identify and address problems related to battery charging, complex wiring, and motors.
- Identify and repair all MHE systems, including mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and battery components, proactively addressing issues such as power loss and charging inefficiencies.
- Conduct daily meetings with the Maintenance Manager to discuss the status of the MHE fleet, progress on work orders, parts inventory, and strategies to ensure optimal truck availability for operations.
- Ensure all repairs and maintenance meet rigorous safety regulations and manufacturer specifications, setting the benchmark for the team.
- Conduct thorough safety checks on all repaired equipment before returning it to service, emphasizing a proactive safety approach.
- Communicate effectively and collaboratively with management, MHE Technicians, and operations teams to ensure seamless workflow and operational continuity.
- Oversee and assist with the installation of new equipment and perform upgrades to existing equipment to enhance performance and meet evolving safety standards.
- Oversee the inspection, maintenance, and replacement of MHE batteries and charging systems.
- Read, interpret, and provide guidance on complex blueprints, technical manuals, and wiring diagrams.
- Champion a robust culture of safety by strictly adhering to all OHS guidelines and regulations and promoting safe work practices within the team.
- Oversee and ensure the maintenance of detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts used, ensuring accurate entry into the Loblaws maintenance system.
- Lead efforts in maintaining accurate records for inventory management, including parts usage and replacements, and initiate part orders as needed.
- Develop and optimize scheduled maintenance programs based on manufacturer recommendations to prevent future mechanical or electrical failures across the MHE fleet.
- Lead periodic testing of hydraulic systems, motors, and electrical components to ensure long-term functionality and reliability.
- Complete comprehensive system tests to ensure equipment operates according to manufacturer specifications and performance benchmarks.
- Proactively identify recurring issues and propose innovative solutions to prevent future breakdowns, driving continuous improvement.
- Education: MHE Maintenance Technician Certificate from a MHE Manufacturer or accredited institution is required; advanced certifications are highly preferred. High school diploma required.
- Experience: A minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience working with material handling equipment, including at least one (1) year in a lead or supervisory capacity, is required. Proven experience with Crown and Raymond MHE equipment is highly preferred. Licensed or experienced in one or more of the following: Automotive, Truck & Coach, Heavy Equipment, Lift Truck Technician, or enrolled in a Motive Power program an asset.
- Technical Skills: Expert-level mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills. In-depth and specialized knowledge of MHE components, including batteries, charging systems, motors, hydraulic systems, and controllers. Demonstrated ability to lead complex diagnostics and repairs. Ability to read hydraulic/electrical schematics and follow service manuals.
- Tools and Equipment: Expert proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, air tools, torches, welders and specialized diagnostic equipment for MHE.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead, motivate, and mentor a team. Strong organizational, delegation, and communication skills.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in various physical conditions, including tight spaces, for extended periods.
- This position is based in a fast-paced warehouse environment, with exposure to loud noises, machinery, and varying temperatures.
- May require evening or weekend shifts depending on operational needs or on-call emergencies.
- Physical labor may involve lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
