Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Hydrovac Operator will be responsible for all phases of planning, execution and management of non-mechanical excavation and equipment administration to meet or exceed client expectations.

What You'll Do Here

  • Conduct pre-trip/walk-around safety inspection.
  • Ability to operate all equipment functions independently and safely.
  • Provide technical support to clients and crew member as required.
  • Manage inventory and supplies.
  • Coordinate machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving of loads and conduct in response to hand or audio signals for team members.
  • Interpret stakes and signage on the land.
  • Ensure all reporting requirements are fulfilled.
  • Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions included but not limited to extreme temperatures (heat and cold), rain, sleet, snow, wind, and/or wet/humid conditions.
  • Work under stress and with commitment to timelines and deadlines.
  • Adhering to Aecon specific policies and regulations.
  • Adhering to site specific rules and regulations.
  • Protect and promote the interest of this company in all matters and to take actions as required to satisfy such responsibilities.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Maintain excellent communication between members of the team and clients.
  • Train, coach, and mentor less experienced Hydrovac Operators.
  • Working as a member of the team by assisting other members when required.
  • Repetitive actions such as constant sitting, driving, and reaching.
  • Ability to work a significant number of hours throughout the day.


Hands On Training And Orientation

  • An introduction to Aecon, our industry, and Utilities work
  • All requisite health and safety training
  • Valuable job-specific skills training
  • Preparing for work on site and job readiness training


The Opportunity To

  • Participate in debrief and evaluation sessions.

  • Complete client’s site-specific training as required.
  • Successful candidates will be provided with all requisite training.


What You Bring To The Team

  • DZ or AZ license.
  • Aptitude for mechanical application of hydraulic pumps, truck controls and equipment.
  • Physical strength and stamina
  • Complete client's site-specific training as required.
  • Ability to be dispatched through the local union as per the collective agreement.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with managers, peers, and clients.
  • Ability to operate all equipment functions independently and safely.
  • Ability to work in outdoor weather conditions included but not limited to extreme temperatures (heat and cold), rain, sleet, snow, wind, and/or wet/humid conditions.

The expected pay range for this position is $41.00 to $44.00/hour
