DEAFBLIND INTERVENOR
(Temporary Contract)
The Deafblind Intervenor is responsible for facilitating communication for persons who are Deafblind. The successful candidate will assist the student(s) to be active participants in school based programs and activities. The successful candidate will use the total communication approach to facilitate communication between student(s) and other students and staff, and to gain information about the visual/oral world around them. Including reinforcement of educational programs by adapting, or modifying classroom materials to meet the specialized needs of student(s) as outlined in their Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Experience working with students with complex needs. Assistance with daily living skills, including communication, re-positioning, feeding, occupational / physiotherapy, sensory activities, visual and auditory exercises. Toileting and lifting will be required. Ability to follow programming outlined in the IEP. Knowledge of data tracking. This is a physically demanding position.

Required Qualifications:
Two year college diploma specifically in Intervenor for Deafblind persons. Knowledge of and ability to use “Total Communication”. Experience working with students with sensory impairments. Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational skills. Knowledge of cross-cultural issues of the deal and hard of hearing. Knowledge of cross-cultural issues of the blind. Basic skills in various software applications, e.g. MS Office, assistive technology.
Preferred: Experience working in an education environment. Alternative communication methods: Augmentative Communication. First Aid and CPR.
** This position works the school year. Locations are subject to change to meet student needs. The duties, responsibilities and requirements for the position are not limited to the above but may include all of those in the Job Fact Sheet for Deafblind Intervenor.
Participation in the OMERS Pension Plan is mandatory for all full-time permanent employees,
even if currently in receipt of an OMERS pension.
