Dawson Road Maintenance is looking for a Bridge and Projects Superintendent who will take the lead on bridge inspections, project oversight, and quality control.

In this role you will be a valued member of Dawson Road Maintenance’s leadership team. Working in a permanent, full-time position of Bridge and Projects Superintendent, reporting to the Manager, Operations. The model candidate will have the ability to think strategically and execute tactically for the delivery of the business needs. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who excels in field operations, contract management, project management and team leadership. Based in the Smithers area of BC you will be responsible for leading the bridge inspection programs, managing project execution, and supporting the Maintenance Division with cost-effective, high-quality solutions. This role will support the Road Maintenance team leading projects and executing day to day operations. Travel to support your tasks across the region is required.

What Success Looks Like

  • Perform bridge inspections in compliance with the requirements outlined in the Highway Maintenance Agreement.
  • Creating priorities and turning them into actions by managing and oversee field staff assigned to your projects.
  • Manage the day-to-day Bridge Highway Maintenance Plan, including budget tracking, reporting, and project execution.
  • Manage the relationship-s with key project stakeholders including the Ministry of Transportation and Transit.
  • Perform site inspections and uphold established quality standards.
  • Be an active member of the leadership team in the creation of the strategic and tactical plans. Offer technical guidance and contract-related support to the Maintenance Division when required.
  • Driving operational efficiency and reducing maintenance costs.
  • Assess subcontractor performance and effectiveness on maintenance-related work.
  • Develop project and task budget estimates and leading projects through the tendering process.
  • Source supplier pricing, handle material procurement, and lead subcontracted work.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets and initiate corrective measures promptly when deviations occur.

What You Bring

  • A minimum of two years of experience in highway maintenance, construction, or a closely related field.
  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in civil engineering, or a certified trade is an asset.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 driver’s license. Class 1 or 3 is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience managing projects in highway maintenance and/or construction settings. Capable of driving sound decisions and effectively resolving issues under pressure.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities with advanced problem-solving and negotiation capabilities.
  • Skilled at building positive working relationships with a wide range of individuals, including clients, project managers, subcontractors, designers, site supervisors, and trades personnel.
  • Well-developed organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and Microsoft Project.
