Job Description

The Project Manager is responsible for leading a multi-disciplinary engineering team to drive the delivery of the engineering work in the development of new ship concept designs ensuring that all engineering scope of work for the project is completed, to meet cost and schedule requirements. The role provides a comprehensive project view to lead engineering teams to meet their commitments, address issues, mitigate risks, and enhance opportunities.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.

What You’ll Do

  • Applies a project management approach to complete design, including work performed by subcontractors, and ensures the efficient delivery of engineering outputs.
  • Developing schedules, resource plans, and charging instructions for the execution of all concept design projects.
  • Drives and coordinates the agile and fast paced design effort required to execute concept designs.
  • Under the direction of Director, Concept Design, coordinate and support Business Development and Program Services in the capture efforts of new projects.
  • Drive timely closure of issues, risks and opportunities, to ensure that all engineering deliverables and inputs to other collaborators are achieved and meet (or exceed) commitments.
  • Assists the Director, Concept Design to develop project control documents and assess the assessment of Control Account Management data of engineering scope for assigned projects.
  • Support the development and formalization of the concept design top-level processes and supporting processes.
  • Under the direction of Director, Concept Design; establish and maintain customer relationships which may include travel.
  • Responsible for application of an appropriate engineering maturity management culture and appropriate engineering lifecycle management, aligned with project objectives.
  • Ensures maturity targets are agreed with key stakeholders.
  • Financial and resource forecasting in a multi project environment.


What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or equivalent technical degree required.
  • Professional Engineer designation or working towards achieving such status or Technical Qualifications plus 5 years’ Project Management experience.
  • 8-10 years demonstrated experience in project management within shipbuilding, vessel maintenance, or maritime engineering domains.
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies, Earned Value Management, engineering best practices, and risk management principles.
  • Experience managing subcontractors, budgets, schedules, and resource planning.
  • Experience working with Navy projects and other government agencies projects.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
  • High proficiency in CADMATIC eShare, Jira, and ARAS is required.
  • Demonstrated experience handling sophisticated projects, bids or proposals. Solid ability to meet or exceed commitments in a fast paced, diverse environment with rapid change and competing priorities.
  • Eligible to obtain ITAR security clearance for Canadian Navy in-service support tasks.
  • Established relationships with CCG, BCF, and other shipyards are highly desirable.
  • Certified project management qualifications have a distinct advantage (e.g. PMP) or working towards one.
  • Detailed understanding of project management techniques and methods.
  • Good judgment and prioritization abilities.
  • Effective, efficient communication skills.
  • A strong business sense.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to strategize and see the bigger picture, whilst focusing on the details.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, able to empower and empathize with team members.
  • Ability to influence others and manage expectations.
  • Familiarity with Government contracting and performance management of major subcontractors.
  • Effectively manages conflict.
  • Excellent computer skills including Word/Excel/PowerPoint.
  • Experience working with National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) programs and naval vessels or similar government contracts.
  • Knowledge of vessel maintenance and lifecycle management.
  • Familiarity with Engineering Support Services (ESS) contracts and maritime regulations.

The estimated salary for this position is $112,500- $137,500. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
