Job Description
The Engineer III, Electrical is responsible for executing Electrical Systems engineering assignments on new construction projects at Seaspan Shipyards.
Under the direction of the Director, Concept Engineering, or their delegate, the Electrical Systems Engineer participates in the development of concept design projects including requirements decomposition, design preparations, supporting analysis, material selection and specification, engineering execution, and engineering close-out activities.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 50 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver

This position may involve defense articles and/or technical data regulated by the U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and the U.S. Arms Export Control Act. Under the direction of the Director, Concept Engineering, or their delegate, the Electrical Systems Engineer participates in the development of concept design projects including requirements decomposition, design preparations, supporting analysis, material selection and specification, engineering execution, and engineering close-out activities.

What You’ll Do
- Develop Early-Stage Electrical Designs: Create design and calculation packages to define preliminary electrical and electronic system architectures, including power distribution, electric load analysis, lighting, communications, and navigation systems.
- Lead Trade-Off and Feasibility Studies: Conduct formal and informal trade studies to assess performance, cost, weight, and integration impacts of different system options.
- Collaborate on Vessel Concepts: Work closely with naval architects, mechanical engineers, and systems engineers to ensure electrical solutions are integrated into hull forms and general arrangements from the outset.
- Define Technical Requirements and BOMs: Prepare high-level technical specifications, system schematics, and bills of material in alignment with customer requirements, regulatory standards, and material cost targets.
- Engage with Industry and Clients: Represent the concept design team in technical meetings with clients, classification societies, and suppliers to validate design intent and gather feedback.
- Support Cost and Weight Estimations: Provide inputs for early-stage cost modeling and weight tracking related to electrical systems. Identify cost reduction opportunities through system simplification or equipment standardization.
- Maintain Awareness of Technology Trends: Stay up to date on advancements in shipboard electrical technologies and assess applicability to concept designs. Evaluate emerging technologies for feasibility and cost-benefit impact.
