Job Summary

The Growth Strategy Data Analyst uses data and analytical skills to help inform strategic growth initiatives for the deregulated business in Canada. As part of the Market and Segment Strategy team, you will contribute to the development of new growth markets, customer segments and channels, while also identifying ways to improve profitability and the overall customer experience. This is a hands-on role, and you must be comfortable working with large amounts of data and with cross functional teams to effectively uncover opportunities and accelerate company growth. We are looking for a blend of technical and business skills – someone who can dig deep / synthesize data, but who can also communicate and articulate business impact.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Analyze various sources of complex business and market data (e.g. recurring billing, customer, marketing, product, sales, financial, competitor data) to identify trends, gaps and growth opportunities. Translate this data into actionable insights and present findings to leadership and cross functional teams.
  • Develop and maintain dashboards, reports, and models to track KPIs and strategic initiatives.
  • Identify key market segments and determine which to target based on overall impact to the Direct Energy Home business for both Residential and Small Business customers.
  • Contribute to growth strategies (product, pricing and marketing planning) by providing data-backed recommendations and insights. Measure and communicate impact.
  • Support the creation of executive-level presentations to show growth and improvement opportunities on acquisition sales and the portfolio growth of energy and subscription-based services.
  • Stay informed of current market trends and competitive developments to enhance Direct Energy’s strategic position in major markets.
  • Work cross-functionally across teams (including external partners) to share knowledge, leverage insights, align data structure and foundations, and inform strategy.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Economics, Business, Mathematics/Statistics or a related field.

Minimum Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in an analyst role with a focus on business intelligence.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Excel, and/or data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI).
  • Highly data-driven with the ability to analyze, articulate and solve complex problems using statistically valid testing procedures.
  • High level of motivation and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously with a high degree of detail and accuracy.
  • Strong business acumen and demonstrated ability to connect data insights to strategic goals and present concepts to make effective business decisions.
  • Comfortable working in a growth environment, collaborating with internal and external teams and providing recommendations on improving existing processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present findings and recommendations to various stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of CRM, marketing analytics, monthly recurring billing /sales data, or product analytics tools.
  • Previous experience working directly with or on a business insights, marketing, product, customer experience or strategy team.
  • Experience with campaign measurement, statistical analysis and experimentation (e.g., A/B testing, regression).

Physical Requirements

  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities/Position requires employee to work using a laptop/computer screen.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid; 3 days in office per week (Calgary)
  • Some travel
