Financial Controller
Accountant Staffing

Our client, a trusted and continually growing business in St. John's, Newfoundland, is seeking an experienced and strategic Controller to lead their accounting operations and support continued organizational growth. This is an excellent long-term career opportunity for a designated accountant (CPA) with at least five years of progressive, hands-on experience, a strong analytical mindset, and proven leadership skills.
Key Responsibilities for the Job:
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements, internal reports, and forecasts
- Lead budgeting and forecasting processes, providing financial insight to support strategic decisions
- Analyze financial performance, variances, and trends, providing clear recommendations to leadership
- Manage cash flow, bank relationships, and financing activities
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness in month-end and year-end close processes
- Maintain and improve internal controls, policies, and accounting procedures
- Ensure compliance with tax laws, regulatory filings, and accounting standards
- Liaise with external auditors and coordinate year-end audit processes
- Supervise, support, and mentor accounting staff
Experience & Attributes for Success:
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required
- 5–10 years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience, ideally within a small to mid-sized business or multi-entity environment
- Strong technical accounting knowledge and experience managing the full accounting cycle
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, or similar) and Excel
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders
- Comfortable in a dynamic environment and capable of balancing multiple priorities
