Nanaimo-Ladysmith Public Schools welcomes applications for the position of Writer/Communications Coordinator.
The Writer/Communications Coordinator works within the Communications Department and is responsible for the development of written materials and news gathering. In collaboration with various departments and schools across NLPS, the successful candidate will generates ideas and produces engaging articles, features, newsletters, presentations, and content for external and internal digital and print communications.
Current Wage Rate is $32.49 per hour /35 hours per week with a competitive benefit and pension package. Please note this wage is subject to change pending Collective Agreement processes.

Desired Skills And Experience
- A minimum of a diploma in Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations, or a related discipline from a recognized postsecondary institution.
- Minimum of 2 years work experience writing and editing professionally for a newsroom or in corporate communications, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated knowledge of digital communications tools including newsletter platforms (e.g. Mailchimp, Smore), Adobe, and website platforms (e.g. WordPress, Drupal).
- Demonstrated knowledge of photography and videography best practices including photo and video editing.
- Minimum keyboarding speed of 60 w.p.m.
- Highly collaborative team player with excellent communications skills.
- Ability to work effectively in an independent and team environment.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and high attention to detail with exceptional organizational skills.
- Knowledge of IAP2 public participation methods.
- BC Driver’s License.
