Purpose of the Role:

As Svante's Instrumentation, Controls and Electrical Specialist, you will design and develop electrical and control systems from the ground up, including schematics, network diagrams, PLC programming, and hardware specifications. On a day to day basis you will be maintaining and improving existing systems through code updates, diagnostics, and collaborative design input with the aim of advancing Svante's technology.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • You have at least 5 years of combined experience working with electrical instrumentation and controls design, as well as technical tasks.
  • You have extensive hands-on experience installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and modifying a wide range of electrical and control equipment—including VFDs, motors, sensors, PLCs, and control devices—as well as building and upgrading various types of enclosures and panels.
  • You have strong technical experience and comfort working with large, complex machinery, including panel building and modification, PLC and I/O wiring, and sensor installation.
  • You have hands-on experience commissioning complex machinery.
  • You have experience in Rockwell PLC programming.
  • You apply learned techniques and analysis to solve technical challenges within a defined and moderate scope.
  • You have proven experience in advancing technology and teams from an immature state to an advanced state—this is highly desirable.
  • You hold a degree in Electrical Engineering or possess equivalent experience.

What Success looks like in this role:

  • You'll install, commission, and troubleshoot a range of electrical and control equipment, including VFD drives, motors, sensors, PLCs, and associated wiring and cabling.
  • You will build and modify control panels and enclosures, such as drive units, PLC cabinets, I/O panels, and power distribution systems.
  • You will design and document electrical and control systems, including single-line diagrams, schematics for power, cabling, enclosures, networks, sensors, and I/O lists.
  • You'll develop and enhance control systems, from hardware specification and PLC programming to device/network configuration, code updates, and system optimization.
  • You will provide guidance to junior technicians and actively participate in design decisions.
  • You'll produce as-built redlines and modify schematics based on functional requirements or redlined drawings.
  • You will contribute to PLC code development, industrial control system design, and machine safety decisions, all within Svante’s Values and Goals.
  • You will assist in selecting sensors and I/O devices, and may advise on machine and functional safety design.
  • You'll support documentation efforts, including electrical designs, I/O lists, interconnect diagrams, and control narratives.
  • You'll document installation, configuration, and operational procedures.
  • You will travel to sites for installation, commissioning, and testing as needed.
