What You Will Be Doing

The Senior Investment Analyst of Business Performance Management assists in strategic thought leadership and analysis to the Investment business, translating performance insights into recommendations for action. The incumbent will maintain, implement and monitor key performance metrics related to the Investment portfolio and Client behavior. Acting as a conduit between the Finance, Client Insights, Advisor Centre, Marketing and Data Science and Analytics Teams, the Senior Investment Analyst will proactively identify key trends and opportunities, providing recommendations to enhance portfolio franchise value, business and overall Bank profitability, while supporting the Everyday Banking strategy. The incumbent will possess strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, complemented by excellent business acumen, and a strategic mindset to problem solving; in addition to technical proficiency, the incumbent will possess thorough knowledge of the Canadian Investment Market, competitor portfolios and tactics for growth.

  • Contribute to the investment’s strategy, focusing on growth, retention, pricing, gaining and deepening relationships with clients, and operational efficiency.
  • Assist in developing an integrated system of benchmarks to monitor portfolio performance; continuously evolve metrics based on changing data and reporting capabilities
  • Participate in collaborative initiatives with other departments, including Finance, Data Science, Advisor Centre, Analytics, and Marketing, to expand current analysis and insights on Investment business performance; strategically source materials from these organizational partners, and third-party research, using integrative IQ to consider how the Team can further provide support for the Everyday Strategy
  • Assist in interpreting customer trends, relevant to the Investment business, and proactively identify new strategic opportunities for growth; summarize and share findings with the broader Investment Product Team, key organizational partners, and Senior leaders.
  • Assist in deep-dive analysis, scenario modelling, and business casing to support strategic decisions.
  • Assist in developing volume growth and retention tactics, considering operational impact and resource requirements; track results of initiatives, and pro-actively re-calibrate current practices to maximize impact.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders around the Bank, as well as Bank of Nova Scotia, to establish permanent working relationships and facilitate seamless implementation of integrated initiatives, and performance tracking.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and enhancement of dashboards and presentations for Senior Leadership, providing clear data driven insights into performance, trend, and strategic initiates.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Skills

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in analytical, product management, investment research, asset management, fintech, or related financial services required.
  • Work experience in data science, or in a project management oriented environment is considered an asset.
  • Computer literate – knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills; excellent communicative ability to frame results of analyses.
  • Advanced analytical skills required, including proficiency in MS Excel (excel regression functions and VBA), Python, R , SAS, SQL, Looker Studio/Power BI, or other quantitative programming languages for data analysis, visualization, and modelling; experience with GCP/BigQuery is a plus.
  • Foundational proficiency in MS Powerpoint is an asset.
  • Ability to thrive in an ultra-fast paced environment; adaptable and flexible when responding to deadlines.
  • Ability to synthesis complex information clearly and simply to a broad audience – excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Thorough understand of retail investment products, key success factors and the regulatory environment surrounding them.
  • High-performing, proactive individual who consistently delivers accurate analyses and recommendation within tight deadlines.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in every facet of analyses and recommendations.
