Reporting to the Program Manager the Nurse Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day coordination of Inpatient Mental Health. The coordinator will promote a healthy, safe working environment on the mental health units. They will provide assessments and monitor unit risk level. They will ensure the provision of care, respecting scope of practice and the treatment of health conditions by providing a supportive, preventative and therapeutic role. This position requires a leadership role in supporting mental health patient movement and flow from the Brightshores Health System, SBGHS and Hanover Emergency Departments to CSP and inpatient psychiatric units.

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications

Required

  • Ontario College of Nurses registration
  • Certification in GPA
  • Recent Psychiatric Nursing experience within the past three years
  • CNA Certification for Mental Health/Psychiatric Nursing or Gerontology or successful completion as soon as eligible
  • Working knowledge of the MHA, HCCA and SDM and LTCA legislation
  • Experience with program and policy development and program evaluation
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Valid CPI Course
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent communication, customer service and collaboration skills with patients, families and other healthcare professionals and community partners
  • Advanced leadership, problem solving, decision making, organizational and patient assessment skills
  • Commitment to continuing education and agreement to take mandatory courses
  • Ability to work weekends and nights per the union contract
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
  • Adherence to Brightshores ‘CARE’ Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence) and ‘LEAD’ Competencies (Lead by example, Empower, Achieve results, Develop others) and a commitment to a safe workplace free of violence and harassment

Preferred

  • Baccalaureate degree in nursing
  • Experience with standardized tools utilized in Geriatric/Mental Health & Addiction assessments
  • Certification in P.I.E.C.E.S
