About the Role
As the Learning & Development Specialist, you'll play a key role in designing, implementing, and tracking people development programs — from onboarding and technical skills to leadership growth. You'll collaborate with Managers to identify training needs, deliver programs that make a difference, and support NorLand’s long-term business goals and growth.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop organization-wide plans and programs to enhance talent and performance, aligned with NorLand’s strategic plan and objectives
- Collaborate with managers and conduct needs assessments to identify, schedule, deliver and monitor training and development opportunities for roles, divisions, and individuals
- Develop and roll out NorLand’s competencies and capabilities framework
- Lead the annual Performance Management cycle, including goal setting and evaluation processes
- Develop career pathing initiatives to support individual development plans for all employees
- Select, implement, and manage NorLand’s Learning Management System (LMS) and digital learning content
- Develop and maintain partnerships with unions, educational institutions, and granting agencies
- Establish and report on metrics to measure training impact and effectiveness
- Ensure inclusive, accessible learning programs using best practices
Qualifications & Skills:
- Post-secondary education and/or specialized credentials in Learning & Development, Training, or related discipline
- Minimum of 4 years’ professional experience in L&D, talent development, or training within a construction or similar environment, supporting a geographically dispersed, unionized, or hourly workforce
- Successful history of creating programs for management, professional, and hourly teams
- Experience aligning programs with organizational strategy and tracking KPIs
- Expertise in learning delivery models and training measurement
- Experience as SME/admin for a digital LMS and content library; implementation experience preferred
- Ability to author content using software tools (Microsoft Office Suite essential; InDesign/graphic/video editing skills an asset)
- Independent, solution-oriented, and able to manage competing priorities
- Collaborative approach with strong relationship-building skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication; confident training and presenting to groups
- Willingness and ability to travel to NorLand worksites across the Lower Mainland, with occasional trips to Vancouver Island, the Interior, and Alberta.
- Access to a reliable transportation and a valid BC Driver’s License is required
Compensation:
The role is a one-year term contract with a typical salary range of $75,000-$95,000 per annum. The starting salary will be based on the successful candidate’s competencies, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, and experience.
