MatchBox Consulting is on the hunt for a Substation High Voltage Engineer to work out of Winnipeg, MB. This role offers a mix of project engineering and management responsibilities including design, field work, mentoring junior staff, and client collaboration.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Perform electrical design of high voltage substations, including grounding studies (using CDEGS), protection and control design, switchyard equipment layout, and panel schematics.
  • Conduct field measurements such as soil resistivity and fall-of-potential for grounding studies.
  • Execute arc flash, coordination, and short circuit studies using software such as ETAP and Easy Power.
  • Design medium/high voltage industrial and commercial power systems including duct banks, cable routing, and emergency power systems.
  • Work closely with project teams, clients, and contractors to deliver projects on time and meet quality standards.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentoring to junior engineers and EITs.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Canadian or CEAB accredited), power systems specialization preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years as an engineer, with at least 2 years as a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng).
  • Direct experience in high voltage substation design within utilities/hydro (NOT oil & gas or mining).
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, CDEGS, ETAP, Easy Power, and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian electrical codes and standards.
  • Valid Manitoba driver’s license.
