What you’d be responsible for
The Specialist, US Taxation is accountable for the performance of EPCOR Utilities Inc.’s US taxation function, focusing on supporting North American Commercial Services’ (NACS) US operations. This includes ensuring accurate and timely preparation of US income tax and other returns, US tax-related research, leading US tax-related business development, preparation of tax provision working papers and achieving the required outcomes with time spans (longest target completion time) of up to 3 - 12 months.
- Provide input to the Senior Manager, US Taxation’s plans and directions, ensure an appropriate understanding of the EUI and Corporate Finance strategy as it applies to Taxation and work to ensure on-going effective positioning and appropriate relationships between Taxation and the rest of EUI.
- Develop and implement stratum appropriate (3 – 12 month) deliverables within the context of the Corporate Finance business plan.
- Ensure deliverables of direct report positions are aligned and integrated, stratum appropriate (3 – 12 month) and include performance expectations and deliverable metrics.
- Identify the necessary budget requirements for the provision of timely and accurate tax services.
- Ensure the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. Ensure that no material interest or penalties are incurred in relation to late or incorrect tax filings, returns, remittances, payments or instalments. Work with the Senior Manager, US Taxation to ensure that prudent taxation strategies are implemented to minimize taxes within context of existing tax laws.
- Develop, implement and review Specialist, US Taxation processes to ensure compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements and ensure mitigation of risks.
- Maintain compliance with new and existing US tax laws and regulations and the timely and accurate recording of all tax related liabilities and expense.
- Preparation of quarterly and year-end US tax provision working papers.
- Ensure the timely and accurate preparation and submission of all forms of US tax filings, returns, remittances, payments or instalments.
- Demonstrate a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievement-oriented, easy to do business with manner of working.
- Participate fully in US business development projects, including leading tax-related due diligence and structuring.
- Approve expenditures within approved resource plan and budget up to $250,000.
What’s required to be successful
- Professional Accounting Designation
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent level of secondary education
- 3+ years of experience preparing US corporate income tax returns
- 2+ years of experience in US tax-related business development activities and tax structuring
- Able to successfully apply the relevant knowledge to ensure the timely and accurate preparation and submission of tax filings, returns, remittances, payments and instalments.
- Able to successfully apply the relevant knowledge to ensure that all tax related liabilities and expenses are recorded in an accurate and timely manner.
- Analytical Thinking / Problem Solving: Draws on own knowledge and experience base and calls on other references and resources as necessary, building a logical approach to address problems or opportunities or manage the situation at hand.
