Jump Recruitment, on behalf of our client, Tacora Resources, is seeking to hire a Chief Power Engineer to join their team in Western Labrador, NL. (Labrador City/ Wabush, NL area).

Our mining and processing facility, Scully Mine, is located in Wabush, Labrador, Canada. Tacora is servicing high demand customers throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Asia to provide high-grade and high-quality iron ore products.
Seeking qualified individuals for the role of Chief Power Engineer(Alternate). Please note that this is not a fly-in, fly-out position and will be based in Labrador West, NL requiring candidates to work a 7 on 7 off 12 hour dayshift schedule.

We are seeking qualified individuals for the role of Chief Power Engineer. Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to relocate to Labrador West.
Job Responsibilities:
Safety, Environment, & Quality:
- Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Steam Plant department following all applicable regulations, codes, and standards.
- Assists with the implementation of Tacora’s safety programs and ensures that all safety objectives are communicated, and implemented and that progress is tracked.
- Ensures that all required standard operating procedures are in place and engages Supervisors and personnel in the review of any changes to safe operating and lock-out procedures.
- Ensure Supervisors and personnel adhere strictly to safety protocols and practices to execute their responsibilities and that they are provided with the training, tools, and equipment necessary to perform their work safely.
- Ensures operating and maintenance parameters are followed to enhance efficiency, energy conservation, and environmental performance while complying with corporate and government safety and environmental regulations.
- Awareness of environmental responsibilities and ensures Steam Plant operations are continually in compliance with environmental regulations.
Operations & Maintenance:
- Ensures that all utilities, i.e. steam, high temperature hot water, compressed air, fuels, treated water and condensate systems are supplied to plant for both consumption and uninterrupted production.
- Providing relief for the Chief Power Engineer as required.
- Giving direction and guidance to Steam Plant Supervisors to ensure the department's safe and efficient operation and the maintenance of all area equipment.
- Responsible for the planning, coordination execution of annual maintenance shutdown activities for areas of responsibility on-site.
- Responsible for the development and management of annual operating and capital budgets and forecasts.
- Responsible for coordinating the ongoing development of the computerized maintenance management program and its use in administering the plant maintenance program
- Accountable for the planning, implementation, and management of routine, non-routine, and emergency maintenance work.
- Assist with the development of effective predictive and preventative maintenance tasks and track the department’s progress against established targets.
Staff Management:
- Establishes and maintains extensive partnerships with all departments on site, develops a positive working environment with the Steam Plant Supervisors and team, and ensures the Supervisors are empowered, encouraged, recognized, and rewarded for their contributions and performance. Mentors and guides the them for their continual development.
- Ensures that Steam Plant Supervisors administer the collective agreement as it applies to assigned staff.
- Coordinating with the Steam Plant Supervisors as it relates to operational issues identified, including recommending changes in operating shift procedures and processes and maintaining leave schedules and relief staff requirements.
- Holds Steam Plant Supervisors accountable to ensure that established responsibilities for the department’s employees are adhered to, ensures their ongoing support through timely open, and honest communication, and provides performance assessment with active feedback.
- Work with the Steam Plant Supervisors to ensure that employee skills are continually developed with a focus on proficiency, training, and career development.
- Ensure that all operational issues and concerns are communicated on time to all appropriate management groups and individuals.
- Ensures that all necessary documentation relating to the safe and effective operation of the Steam Plant and associated systems and equipment is maintained to meet the requirements of all applicable legislation.

Skills & Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of all applicable Boiler and Pressure Vessel regulations, acts and standards.
- Sound knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations.
- Knowledge of computers and ability to operate computer systems and software applications including Microsoft Excel, Word, Power-point and Outlook.
- Sound level of problem solving/analytical skills, strong organizational and coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast paced environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to deal with tact, diplomacy and courtesy.
- Excellent work ethic and attendance record.
Education & Experience:
- 1st Class Power Engineering Certificate transferable to the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Consideration may be given to 2nd class candidates with experience who can show significant progress towards a 1st Class certificate.
License:
- Class 5 Driver’s License (Required)
