CHILD AND YOUTH CARE STUDENT ON PLACEMENT – OFFICE & PROGRAM

PLASP Child Care Services is a charitable organization operating on a not-for-profit basis, providing high quality early learning and child care, for children up to 12 years of age.

Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to your schedule provided (times will vary depending on the hours of the school location); approximate hours in program would be from 7:15am-9:00am and 2:30pm-6:00pm, office time would be in between these times
    • The program location would be dependent on the student selected as we aim to find something convenient for the individual
    • The PLASP office is location at 60 Courtneypark Drive West, Unit 5 in Mississauga
  • Students will receive their required 21 hours per week from the before and after school program and time spent at the PLASP office or remotely preparing visuals for the children and completing planning time. Please note that remote work is limited to 4 hours a week.
  • Complete course work according to your requirements and timelines
  • Always take direction from the staff

  • Use your supervisor and the setting as a resource
  • Become familiar with PLASP’s policies and procedures
  • Become familiar with the Supervisory Policy

  • Inform staff of issues that need to be discussed with parents
  • Contribute to creating a safe work environment
  • Wear your ID Badge while in the program
  • Be flexible with work environment being PLASP office/from home and the program

Key Responsibilities When Working with Children:

  • Enjoy interacting with the children
  • Assist the staff with the children and the program navigating conflict resolution
  • Interact directly with all the children, by talking, listening, and playing with them
  • Participate in all aspects of the program
  • Assist with activity planning that engages the children’s interests
  • Lead indoor and outdoor activities that are geared to the children’s interests
  • Eat with the children
  • Assist with set-up and clean-up, e.g., snack time, craft activities, etc.
  • Become familiar with policies and procedures
