Reporting to the Senior Manager, Global Communications and Public Affairs, the Manager will be responsible for several communications mandates to support Scotiabank’s exposure and footprint in Quebec. This person contributes to the success of the Global Corporate Affairs team by ensuring individual goals, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives. The Manager is also responsible for building and delivering best in class internal and external communications programs and managing external relationships with non-profit organizations located in Quebec. The Manager will also be responsible for delivering communication projects that support the successful execution of Bank objectives along with a variety of internal partners.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

Accountabilities (Community Investment) – 50 %

  • Develop internal communication strategies to support periodic regional communications, including creating and distributing an employee newsletter.
  • Provide support for executive communications and leader events, such as speaking notes, Q&As and video scripts.
  • Conduct proactive media relations with Quebec media.
  • Internal and external French communications planning and execution of employee and public relations activities and leader profile building.
  • Monitor and analyze French media coverage to share insights with various leadership teams
  • Assist with the creation of French content for various Scotiabank platforms.

Accountabilities (Community Investment) – 50 %

  • Manage communications between organizations in Quebec and the Scotiabank Community Investment team.
  • Build relationships with charities located in Quebec and create comprehensive activation strategies to maximise the impact and visibility of our donation program.
  • Ensure coordination with the regional leaders to increase their participation in various public events, such as galas, charitable events, and volunteering opportunities.
  • Support the ScotiaRISE program in Quebec and provide recommendations as to how the regional and national team can best engage with various projects/organizations.

Skills

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Minimum undergraduate university degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Business, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a corporate communications role, preferably in financial services (or regulated) environment.
  • Superior verbal and written French communication skills including demonstrable creativity, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Must possess a diplomatic, flexible, positive attitude, with a proven ability to remain calm under pressure and to deliver under tight timelines.
  • Must be highly proactive and creative, with a strong, proven ability to plan and manage competing priorities, as well as the ability to recognize and appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Media relations experience and good knowledge social media is an asset.
  • Experience with graphic design, developing videos and online/digital content is also an asset.

Pursuant to a language needs assessment conducted by Scotiabank, the successful candidate will be required to be able to communicate in English in addition to French because they will be required to work closely with other groups from head office who operate primarily in English, they will report to a manager from head office who is an English speaker, and they will serve an English-speaking clientele
