Location – Oshawa, ON

Our Nuclear Canada business is experiencing significant growth driven in part by planned New Build projects underway internationally and domestically. Candu Energy Inc., an AtkinsRéalis company is involved in the deployment of the GEH BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) at Ontario Power Generation Darlington site. It will be the first grid-scale SMR deployed in Canada.

We are currently seeking either Mechanical or Chemical Design Engineers – Site Support to join our team at the project site office, Oshawa, Ontario.

Your Role Within The Team

  • Support the engineering change control process in a large multidisciplinary project (design phases to site implantation for new nuclear builds).
  • Support engineering management with making sure that all design changes are properly documented, evaluated, and implemented for closure.
  • Work closely with all owner functional engineering team, stakeholder partners and home office engineering team in interpreting DNNP project procedures with respect to CANDU Quality Assurance (QA) program requirements.
  • Support engineering integration by creating datasets, including but not limited to Safety Analysis Data List and Unit Data List.
  • Manage various databases, such as assumptions and risks, creating and keeping track of actions internally and across the Integrated Partner Alliance (IPA).
  • Develop and support engineering applications and related databases and assist with the maintenance of technical reference data.
  • Support engineering disciplines with design requirements database, by implementing information directly in the tool (i.e. DOORS).
  • Has technical expertise to address and resolve technical and procedural issues that would impact construction priorities.
  • Prepare guidelines and bridging procedures for seamless implementation of DNNP configuration management requirements within the project and IPA.
  • Support with technical integration, configuration management, and interface control both within the project across the various disciplines involved, and with IPA.
  • Collaborate with various engineering disciplines and help with integrating the best practices into project work.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Engineering degree in a core discipline (Chemical, Mechanical) from an accredited University. Registered Professional Engineer in a Province of Canada is an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years of design experience in their core engineering discipline with minimum 3 years of nuclear industry or other heavy new build project is an asset.
  • Experience in integrating various engineering processes in a multi-disciplinary work environment with focus on engineering change control.
  • Experience in performing work under nuclear quality management systems such as CSA N286 , and CSA N299 is an asset. Working knowledge of pressure boundary codes and standards, including CSA N285.0, ASME BPVC Sec. III and Sec. VIII, ASME B31.1 is an asset.
  • Experience in interfacing with construction teams and acting as liaison between construction and design.
  • Knowledge of a BWR-Boiling Water Reactor and PHWR – Pressurized Heavy Water type nuclear reactor system designs including Balance of Plant Designs, at high level, as well as ability to dive into various systems to support design integration and control.
  • Ability to multi-task multiple jobs in an individual or group setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Eligible to obtain Security Clearances, Ontario Power Generation and AtkinsRéalis through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC), are mandatory.
