Would you like to take on a stimulating, high-impact challenge? We are looking for a Senior Advisor, Community Relations.

The role

The Senior Advisor, Community Relations is responsible for the day-to-day deployment of the citizen participation plans and other consultation activities to support the Project's development. As part of their activities, they will develop and maintain close relations with local stakeholders, including interest groups and individuals interested in or potentially affected by the Project. This role reports to the Manager, Community Relations.

In collaboration with consultants, they will provide strategic advice in relation to the various issues and opportunities associated with the Project and guide the development of appropriate consultation activities within a geographic region of the project corridor. The Senior Advisor may be called upon to sit on expert working tables on behalf of the Project and will be expected to represent the Project at local events. The Senior Advisor will be responsible for documenting issues, notably within the Boréalis database and following up with the internal teams concerned.

The Responsibilities

  • Advise management on various issues and opportunities related to the Project.
  • Design and implement public and stakeholder engagement and participation plans.
  • Establish and maintain regular contact with regional stakeholders.
  • Act as liaison with concerned citizen groups.
  • Represent the Project at various regional events.
  • Guide the Media Relations and Internal Communications team in the development and revision of communication tools required for consultations.
  • Liaise with external consultants for the logistical organization and deployment of consultation activities.
  • Ensure rigorous documentation of consultation approaches and efforts within the Boréalis platform.

The Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, administration, environment or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years of experience in communications and community relations or in related fields of expertise.
  • Ability to create and maintain good relationships.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts, share them clearly in public, and write well-crafted texts that demonstrate this.
  • Good listening, problem-solving and strong facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of IAP2.
  • Ability to remain calm in the face of intense or potentially hostile situations.
  • Knowledge of the functioning of municipal political, administrative structures and Ontario's socio-economic issues.
  • Strong sense of ethics.

Assets

  • Bilingualism (French and English), spoken and written.
  • Proficiency in technological and office electronic tools (in particular, the Microsoft suite).
  • Understanding of the specificities related to the reality of Indigenous groups in Canada (a strong asset).
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience with regulatory processes (federal and/or provincial), such as the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC).
  • Knowledge of the public transit and rail transportation sectors and their specific issues.
  • Knowledge of linear projects or infrastructures.
  • Knowledge of the Boréalis platform.
