Semi Tactical Security Guard- Value Village (Retail Security)

Location: Burlington, Ontario

Job Type: Full Time

Pay Rate: $18.00/hr.

Job Duties:

Uniform and Deportment:

Must have clean uniform and maintain professional deportment and bearing

Uniform Standards: Black or dark blue pants, black shoes, security company-issued top and tactical vest. This standard does not change regardless of weather conditions as shorts, flip flops and the like are not allowed. For cold weather conditions the Tactical Guards may use gloves, hats and sweaters that are black or dark blue in color, but the tactical vest must be visible at all times. For extreme temperature locations, company-issued jackets are allowed but must ensure the tactical vest is visible on the front. Visibility vest and other uniforms variations are not permitted.

Compliance tools such as handcuffs or pepper spray are prohibited

The Tactical Guard must abide to current PPE standards and is expected to wear a face mask properly covering the mouth and nose. The mask must be worn as soon as the Tactical Guard enters the premises and must not be removed until leaving the premises; the mask can only be removed while sitting at a lunchroom table to eat.

Management is expected to immediately address any deviation to the uniform or deportment standards with the security provider supervisory team and RLPM

  • Socializing with Value Village Staff

Tactical Guard must not socialize with Value Village staff either while on or off duty. This includes flirting, joking, dating, sending unprofessional or inappropriate emails or texts, contacting them via social media, and/or making unprofessional phone calls, etc.

  • Timekeeping and Attendance:

Tactical Guard must be on time for shifts and must be signed in and out for all shifts only by a member of management using the provided sign in /sign out form; a copy must remain at store premises.

Tactical Guard is to notify a member of management when going on break and lunch; while on break or lunch the post will be left unattended and no other person should take the Tactical Guard’s place.

  • Post Location:

The Tactical Guard is to be posted by the front entrance door and position themselves as to obtain a 180-degree view of the door and the retail floor. Ensure your Greeter is posted further in the store so that it allows appropriate distancing from the Tactical Guard and so that they are only greeting customers that have been screened by the Tactical Guard.

Tactical Guard remain by the front entrance door of the store and only go into the store for a subject that refuses to leave.

There should be limited interaction with staff on the sales floor and must be work related conversations only.

Any concerns pursuant to the Tactical Guard’s performance or actions should be immediately directed to the RLPM and should not be addressed at store level.

Tactical Guards should only utilize cell phones for business purposes or to notify the authorities.

  • Interactions – The Tactical Guard shall:

Remove all individuals with known prior criminal activity known to him/her at start of shift before assuming post at the front door.

Log all Denied Entry/Removals:

Log all External ban/removal/denied entries to individuals with known prior criminal activity and any new theft/attempted thefts/police incidents (including recovery totals); retain information for future ban/removal/denied entry.

Log all Safety (Intoxication and otherwise) denied entries/removals and escalate assistance to EMS as

needed.

Serious incidents where damage or injury has occurred should be entered into Interview Entry by Value Village management within 24 hours of its occurrence.

Tactical Guard may remove individuals that are identified by a member of management as having prior criminal activity at the store. The Tactical Guard must confirm that direct criminal act has been observed and that the member of management is confident about their identification; suspicion is not sufficient for removal. If the Tactical Guard is unsure about identification or about the information given by management, the suspect should be left alone until their behavior dictates a removal.

Team Members are not permitted to identify individuals to the Tactical Guard directly, instead they are to take their concerns to a member of management who will assess the validity of the information and determine whether it should be shared with the Tactical Guard.

All recovered merchandise must be tallied by management using a Training Mode transaction on the register and the merchandise must be put back on the sales floor upon completion of the process.

  • Stats must be reported based on a 4-4-5 retail calendar with a Sunday to Saturday format and must be submitted by end of day Monday of the new week. The stats should report by store the number of hours of service performed, number of barred External and Safety barred entries and recovery dollars.
  • Restrictions:

The use of handcuffs, pepper spray, or any form of restraints are strictly prohibited and should not be brought into the store premises.

The search of customer bags, parcels, purses, containers, or person is prohibited

The Tactical Guard is not allowed to check customer receipts upon their exit – this is not a receipt check program

Tactical Guards are not allowed to deal with incidents of tag switching, if observed these matters are to be passed on to the management team to be addressed from a customer service perspective only

Tactical Guard is to use de-escalation techniques only and maintain a hands-off approach; in the event an individual becomes combative, the Tactical Guard is to disengage and contact the authorities. Value Village staff is not permitted to physically assist on any potential altercations, instead they should render assistance by immediately contact the authorities.

If video evidence is needed by police, the Tactical Guard should advise management who will then burn the video from the DVR for the attending officers.

Tactical Guards are not allowed to shop at Value Village before, during or after their shifts.

There will be no discounts provided for the Tactical Guard, nor should the Tactical Guard inquire about discounts.

The Tactical Guard’s personal property brought into the store is subject to random inspections by store management personnel; this will include the inspection of all backpacks, bags, purses, etc. upon exiting the building.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum High School diploma or Grade 12 education
  • Minimum of 1 year of Retail security experience preferably in Canada.
  • Must Possess a valid Security license
  • Excellent written & verbal communication and active listening skills
  • Able to work nights, weekends, weekdays, and holidays
  • Able to work outdoors any weather conditions with excessive walking and long periods of standing
