Position Summary: 

 This position is responsible for the complete scope of materials management activities within the facility. They have specific responsibility for inventory planning and control, distribution and purchasing.

This position will lead the operational materials teams, shipping & receiving, warehousing and our re-pack area.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a warehouse inventory management system that provides accurate data on raw materials / finished goods and ease of access.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to minimize costs, decrease waste and gain efficiencies.
  • Monitor consigned material flow in consideration of floor space usage, ensure First In, First Out, and accommodate lot control traceability.
  • Monitor inventory levels, inventory turnover rates and order fill rates to diagnose purchasing and distribution problems.
  • Schedule of personnel to ensure all aspects of the operations are covered.
  • Supervise and direct the activities of materials personnel to ensure on time delivery at minimum cost.
  • Ensure co-ordination between production schedules and shipping schedules to meet customer requirements.
  • Work in conjunction with the purchasing team to ensure supplier compliance performance in alignment with delivery, service, and cost.
  • Lead physical inventories, monitor inventory levels, and adjust accordingly.
  • Develop KPI’s in accordance with the needs of the business. Prepare month-end reports and communicate with applicable staff members.
  • Be an active member of the Guelph site leadership team.
  • Co-ordinate and monitor all incoming and outgoing materials, production, shipping and WIP handling.
  • Work with purchasing team to ensure raw materials receipts in support of production requirement.
  • Drive a safe and engaged work culture in all aspects of team management.
  • Facilitate the development of team leaders throughout the various areas with full responsibility for performance management of team members.

Educational Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree or college diploma in business administration, commerce or economics is required.
  • Graduate of Certified Materials Management Program or equivalent experience.

Required Skills & Expertise:

  • Five to Seven years of experience in materials/ purchasing related positions.
  • Previous experience in a supervisory role is required.
  • Working knowledge of Customs compliance.
  • Ability to work independently, but also work in teams to ensure effective forecasting, product distribution and marketing.
  • Working knowledge of all applicable software MS office, Excel, Visual ERP an asset.
  • Engage in continuous learning to keep up-to-date information on new products and market trends, and to operate new automated sales and inventory management systems.
