POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The Event Support Worker provides essential on-site support during external rentals at The Salvation Army Kingston Citadel. This includes opening and closing the building, assisting renters with audio-visual and kitchen equipment as required, ensuring compliance with the Facility User Agreement, and maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for all guests. The Event Support Worker helps represent the ministry of The Salvation Army through attentive service and responsible facility oversight.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.20 to $20.64 with a maximum of $24.77.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.

Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
The Event Support Worker provides essential on-site support during external rentals at The Salvation Army Kingston Citadel. This includes opening and closing the building, assisting renters with audio-visual and kitchen equipment as required, ensuring compliance with the Facility User Agreement, and maintaining a safe, welcoming environment for all guests. The Event Support Worker helps represent the ministry of The Salvation Army through attentive service and responsible facility oversight.
Accountabilities
Facility Access & Oversight
- Open the building prior to scheduled rentals and ensure readiness of required spaces
- Close and secure the facility at the conclusion of events, including setting alarms and locking doors
- Ensure renters understand and adhere to the terms of the Facility User Agreement
- Monitor space use to prevent damage, safety risks, or misuse
- Welcome renters and serve as their primary contact while on site
- Provide basic assistance with AV systems (e.g., microphones, projectors, soundboards)
- Support use of kitchen facilities, including operation of the commercial dishwasher when required
- Respond calmly and professionally to renter inquiries or minor issues that arise
- Respond appropriately to emergencies.
- Document and report any incidents, damages, or concerns to the Corps Officer
- Monitor the facility, maintain a safe, supportive, and clean environment before and after events
- Assist with minor resetting of furniture or light cleanup if needed
- Complete post-event checklist and communication log at end of each shift
Financial And Material Management
- Facility materials management
- May be required to collect fees and prepare receipts as needed.
- This is a casual position with no guaranteed hours of work.
- Schedule may vary according to facility rental bookings and event needs. Flexibility is required with evening and weekend work.
- The Supervisor will set the hours of work
- This job requires reaching, bending, standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Be able to lift up to 25 pounds
- Must be able to work alone during shifts and respond to unexpected situations appropriately
Education, Experience, And Qualifications
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in hospitality, customer service, or facility support is an asset
- Ability to work independently and take the initiative in resolving minor issues
- Basic knowledge of AV equipment and willingness to learn additional systems
- First Aid/CPR certification would be an asset or willingness to complete if required.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with building operations (e.g., security systems, AV, appliances)
- Experience working in a customer-facing or event support role
- Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Understanding of building safety and emergency procedures
- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Self-motivated/disciplined.
- Ability to prioritize, organize and manage multiple tasks; the ability to complete assignments and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability.
- Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills and respect authority
- Ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with the public, both in person and on the telephone.
- Represent the organization in a positive, professional and engaging manner.
- Ability and willingness to provide a valid Safe Food Handlers Certification.
- Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures and associated legislation.
- Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening as required.
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
