Position Information
This positions is for the Virtual Recovery After Surgery Program (VRAS) and also for Surgical Daycare Unit (SDCU).
The Virtual Recovery After Surgery (VRAS) program, was launched in early 2021 with Ontario Health Surgical Transitions Remote Care Monitoring Funding and support from The Ottawa Hospital (TOH). In alignment with TOH s strategic plan, this program positions TOH as leaders in helping reshape the future of health care to reflect 21st-century needs and innovations, looking beyond `the patient in the hospital to also support `the person in the community .
Days, and evenings, including weekends, 8 and 12 hour shifts.

- Certificate of registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario;
- Recent SDCU or surgical nursing experience;
- Recent Virtual care and monitoring experience
- Demonstrates sound knowledge of surgical procedures, risks, responsibilities and legalities; associated with the ambulatory care surgical patient
- Demonstrates commitment to participate in continuous quality improvement approaches to patient care;
- Demonstrates commitment to continuing education and willingness to actively participate in departmental educational activities;
- Demonstrates knowledge of the nursing process and the ability to apply this process to the practice of nursing;
- Demonstrates sound knowledge and ability in patient teaching of inpatient surgical and ambulatory care surgical patients;
- Demonstrates leadership and the ability to function independently;
- Demonstrates a professional and respectful attitude to patients, the public and colleagues;
- Demonstrates excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, multi-tasking and decision-making skills;
- Demonstrates ability to work independently & effectively as an active member of the health care team;
- Skilled user in a computer technology environment; including multiple software applications
- Ability to adapt to new and changing technology;
- Strong computer knowledge specifically Epic, Cloud dx, virtual appointment applications, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams).
- Must be eligible to work in Canada.
- Physical Assessment Course;
- BSc.N.;
- Current ACAO and OPANA membership.
- Recent Cloud DX software experience;
- Proficiency in English and French oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
