About The Role

We’re looking for a Senior Business Operations Lead to join Shopify’s Operations team. In this role, you will partner with product and business leaders across Shopify to tackle some of the most important and ambiguous challenges related to scaling globally. To do this you will bring structured-thinking, data-driven insights and creativity to how we think about the challenges we face on a daily basis. You will ensure that there is ongoing ownership of recommended solutions, and you will strive to build low overhead systems that power Shopify for years to come. Senior Leads at Shopify are not just prepared to, but are expected to get into the details of the work and partner side by side with all levels of the company to achieve great outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Set the Direction & Align Teams. Define bold objectives, align teams around the highest-impact bets, and keep us focused on what matters most.
  • Own Execution from Start to Finish. Take full ownership of big, complex work. Use AI automation to ship faster, raise the quality bar, and eliminate busywork—so our teams move with speed and confidence.
  • Lead & Connect Across Shopify. Build and coach high-performing teams. Collaborate with leaders and individual contributors across disciplines—Retail, Product, Finance, Go-to-Market—to solve tough problems together.
  • Turn Data into Action. Dig deep into analytics. Surface clear signals, drive sharp insights, and help teams make fast, informed decisions.
  • Make Dollars Make Sense. Get into the details on financials. Model impact, push for smarter resource bets, and guide teams to deliver outsized ROI.
  • Ship at Scale, Adapt on the Fly. Run multiple, high-velocity projects confidently. Pivot quickly as priorities shift, always keeping our merchant-first focus.
  • Design for Impact, Optimize for Speed. Keep our operational engine humming. Spot pain points, automate ruthlessly, and raise our standard for how Shopify works.
  • Tell the Story, Rally the Team. Make the complex simple—whether you’re speaking to engineers, execs, or our merchant teams. Bring people along and keep everyone pointed in the same direction.


Qualifications

  • High-performance background: Demonstrated success in top-tier management consulting, investment banking, or high-growth technology companies/startups, with a record of delivering results in demanding and fast-paced environments.
  • Reflexive AI use and Advanced analytical acumen: Exceptional skills in financial modeling, business analysis, and problem-solving. Adept at synthesizing complex quantitative and qualitative data—and leveraging advanced data analytics and AI tools reflexively—to generate actionable business insights and clear recommendations.
  • Strategic vision & operational execution: Experience developing, communicating, and executing business strategies for executive audiences. Comfortable using AI tools for scenario planning, opportunity sizing, and operational modeling. Equally capable of high-level planning and hands-on management to ensure successful delivery of initiatives.
  • Executive partnership & discretion: Proven ability to collaborate with senior leadership on high-priority, sensitive, and time-critical projects. Exercises sound judgment and maintains a high level of discretion and professionalism.
  • Business judgment & relationship building: Strong commercial sense; able to evaluate opportunities, risks, and trade-offs with organization-wide impact. Skilled in building relationships and collaborating cross-functionally—across both flat and matrixed structures—while leveraging AI-enabled communication and productivity tools.
  • Self-starter with entrepreneurial drive: Operates with autonomy and proactivity, thriving in environments of ambiguity and frequent change, and maintains a relentless focus on driving impact, using AI and automation to enhance speed and decision quality.
  • Clear, concise communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, able to distill complex or technical ideas—with or without the aid of generative AI—for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including executives, engineers, and customer-facing teams.
