Boiler & Pressure Equipment Inspector (Safety Codes Officer) - Edmonton Region


ABSA is seeking industry leaders to join a technical team of Field Inspectors at our Edmonton location. ABSA seeks individuals who are passionately engaged in safety codes and regulations, willing to invest time into their career and value a respectful workplace.


ABSA operates in a technically complex industry and invests in professionals willing to develop their career to the top of the industry. The typical initial training period is two years to become fully qualified as a Field Inspector.


As a Field Inspector you will interact directly with a variety of Owners and Operators in both the public and private sectors to complete inspections, provide guidance and advising on matters pertaining to pressure equipment safety.


You will use your expertise to:

  • Conduct inspections of pressure equipment located in public occupancy buildings such as heating boilers, power boilers, expansion tanks, air receiver tanks, refrigeration equipment and other similar equipment.
  • Conduct inspections of pressure equipment under construction as an Authorized Inspector.
  • Conduct welder testing as required.
  • Conduct incident investigations (unsafe conditions, accidents and fires) that are caused by or affect pressure equipment.
  • Audit Certificate of Authorization Permit holders as required.


Minimum requirements:

Must have achieved one of the following:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical, Materials (Metallurgical) Engineering or another related engineering Discipline from a recognized university OR
  • 1st Class or 2nd Class Power Engineers Certificate of Competency OR
  • Graduate of a two-year full time program from a recognized institution in Mechanical, Materials or Welding Engineering Technology.


Additional requirements:

  • 5-10 years of industry experience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Technology savvy – able to set up and sign electronic documents
