Summary Of Duties
Research Design and Execution
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including neurosurgeons, neuro-oncologists, radiation oncologists, neuro-pathologists, radiologists, engineers, physicists, and scientists, and other key stakeholders
- Design, develop and lead independent and collaborative new research projects and experiments, from concept through to protocol writing, submission to research ethics board, execution, data collection (e.g. REDCap data capture) and analysis
- Develop grant applications in collaboration with principal investigator.
- Analyze experimental data and interpret findings in relation to current literature
- Write and publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals
- Present research results at national and international conferences.
- Design, execute, and analyze experiments involving human specimens (e.g. blood, plasma, solid tissue)
- Process and store bio specimens, ensure proper handling and documentation
- Relevant techniques include the following: immunohistochemistry, 3D histology, cell culturing, antibody based assays (e.g. multiplex), proteomics, flow cytometry, DNA/RNA extraction, and next generation sequencing.
- Work within the larger context of Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre (SHSC) and observe Hospital and Research Institute rules and regulations, policies, procedures, practices, safety procedures and current legislation, in particular the Human Rights Code regarding discrimination and harassment.
- Ensure the confidentiality of patient, employee and Hospital information at all times.
- Work cooperatively and constructively with the other members of staff.
- Perform the above functions in a manner, which reflects SHSC Hospital philosophy and mission of service, while promoting and maintaining good public relations with patients, visitors and staff.
- Work on occasional weekends if necessary

Qualifications
- Ph.D. or M.D. or equivalent with experience in cancer, neuro-oncology, immunology or a related field
- Proficiency in a wide range of wet lab techniques, including histology, molecular biology and cell culture
- Experience in bioinformatics and/or immunology is an asset
- Familiarity with office suite (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint), statistical softwares and programming languages R or Python
- Familiarity with Protected Health Information, and clinical data capture systems (e.g. REDCap)
- Experience in grant writing
- Team player and self-starter with the ability to work efficiently and independently
- Exceptional written and verbal English communications and interpersonal skills
- Ability to foster collaborative relationships and coordinate teams of varying backgrounds while ensuring targets and objectives are met.
