POSITION DETAILS
ABC Recycling Ltd. is seeking a Torch Burner to be based out of our Kelowna, BC location. Reporting to the General Manager, the Burner is responsible for cutting over-sized pieces of scrap metal to marketable size using oxy/propane fueled cutting torches. Typically, these large pieces are too thick or too large to be processed effectively with mobile or stationary shears.
The ideal candidate will have related experience, specifically with operating an oxy torch/cutter.
The shift for this position is Monday-Friday, daytime hours.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Safely helps with equipment operators’ layouts scrap in operating cutting area.
- Sets up and maintain oxy acetylene/ propane torches.
- Cuts large or too thick pieces of metal into customer specifications.
- Ensures fire prevention is running and follows safety guidelines.
- Communicates with fellow workers in a professional manner.
- Maintains neatness and cleanliness of cutting area and burn trailer.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
- Completes all necessary paperwork. May include, but not limited to, daily logs, inspection logs.
- Complies with all PPE requirements for the task, and ensures all PPE is stored properly in designated area.
- Communicates any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
- Adheres to ABC’s workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliances.
- Maintains working knowledge of changes in technology and operation techniques.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
- Previous burner and/or labourer experience.
- Willingness to work in a variety of environments including wet, humid, particulate (dusty), cold, hot, and indoor/outdoor.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Dexterity – the job is physically demanding.
- Experience running a torch/plasma cutter in a related industry is considered an asset.
- Attention to detail and a focus on safety are constantly required.
- This position is regularly exposed to all weather conditions.
- Physical hazards such as noise, fumes, vibration and dirt are present due to the equipment, machinery, and material we process as would be found throughout a recycling yard.
- Safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, face shields, and additional personal protective equipment, must be worn to eliminate the risks associated with these hazards.
