Position Summary
The Registered Dietitian is responsible for assessing, developing, and implementing individualized nutrition care plans for residents of the Glen Stor Dun Lodge (GSDL). This role ensures that residents receive appropriate nutritional support based on their medical conditions, dietary needs, and personal preferences while adhering to regulatory standards and best practices. The RD collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, residents, and families to enhance overall health and quality of life through evidence-based nutrition interventions.

The RD collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, residents, and families to enhance overall health and quality of life through evidence-based nutrition interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments for residents upon admission and quarterly thereafter and as required based on their health status.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized nutrition care plans, ensuring alignment with medical conditions, dietary needs, and preferences.
- Provide recommendations for therapeutic diets, texture modifications, and enteral nutrition support as needed.
- Collaborate with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams to promote optimal nutrition and hydration.
- Monitor residents’ nutritional intake, weight trends, and risk factors for malnutrition, making necessary adjustments to care plans.
- Educate residents, families, and staff on nutrition-related topics, including special diets, dietary modifications, and healthy eating strategies.
- Ensure compliance with LTC regulations, Ministry of Long-Term Care (MLTC) standards, and infection prevention protocols related to food safety and nutrition services.
- Participate in menu planning and review processes to ensure meals meet dietary guidelines and residents' nutritional needs.
- Document assessments, care plans, and interventions accurately and promptly in residents’ medical records.
- Support quality improvement initiatives related to nutrition and food services within the GSDL.

Education & Certifications:
- Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field.
- Valid registration in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Registered Dietitian, preferably in a long-term care, healthcare, or geriatric setting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Clinical Nutrition Expertise: Strong understanding of geriatric nutrition, therapeutic diets, and chronic disease management.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Problem-Solving: Ability to assess and address nutritional challenges, adapting care plans based on residents’ evolving needs.
- Collaboration: Proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary healthcare team to support holistic resident care.
- Attention to Detail: Strong ability to analyze and document residents’ nutritional needs, progress, and interventions with accuracy.
- Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of Ontario’s LTC regulations, MLTC standards, and best practices in nutrition care.
- Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple resident assessments, care plans, and menu planning responsibilities efficiently.
- Work is primarily performed in the GSDL, requiring frequent resident interaction.
- Standard business hours, Monday to Friday.
- Cognitive demands include a high level of attention to detail and problem-solving in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Physical demands include periods of standing, walking, and occasional lifting of materials related to nutrition services.
- Successful reference check (two work-related references, with a minimum of one being a direct supervisor)
