Scotiabank is seeking an experienced Director to lead our enterprise-wide talent strategy. This role is pivotal in shaping the future of work at Scotiabank, driving initiatives across leadership enablement, performance, inclusion, culture, learning, and skills transformation. The successful candidate will serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership and collaborate across HR and enterprise functions to ensure Scotiabank remains a top employer globally.

The Director, Global Talent Strategy plays a crucial role in shaping and executing the enterprise-wide talent strategy at Scotiabank. Reporting to the Vice President, Culture & Performance, this role leads high-impact initiatives across leadership enablement, performance, inclusion, culture, learning, and future skills—ensuring the organization is well-positioned to attract, develop, and retain the talent it needs to succeed in a dynamic, global environment. This role will lead a team of 3 direct reports and partners closely with the SVP of Talent Strategy and senior leadership team. Additionally, this role serves as a strategic advisor on the future of work, workforce planning, and talent technology innovation, and plays a pivotal role in the operational and governance functions of the broader HR team.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

Global Talent Strategy Development

  • Develop Comprehensive Talent Strategies: Create and implement integrated strategies for leadership enablement, performance management, global inclusion, organizational culture, learning and development, and skills. Ensure these strategies align with global HR and business priorities.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Teams: Manage teams across HR and enterprise partners, overseeing research, issue identification, analysis, and preparation of strategic recommendations for senior leadership.
  • Present Strategic Recommendations: Synthesize findings and present clear recommendations and implementation plans to senior leaders, ensuring impactful project outcomes.
  • Execute Strategic Planning: Drive the execution and ongoing management of strategic planning within Talent Strategy to ensure alignment with HR’s strategic plan and ScotiaBond.
  • Collaborate for Insights: Work with the Enterprise Strategy team to leverage insights and repeatable patterns.
  • Facilitate Problem-Solving: Design and lead problem-solving sessions, workshops, and interviews with HR and enterprise partners, including finance, risk, compliance, marketing, and communications.
  • Foster Alignment: Bridge silos and enable alignment across business lines and corporate functions, fostering a cohesive approach to talent strategy.

Thought Leadership

  • Offer Strategic Insights: Provide insights on workforce trends, including new working models, digital transformation, and changing employee expectations. Convert these trends into actionable strategies to future-proof talent.
  • Lead Research and Benchmarking: Perform competitive and business environment research to identify emerging issues and trends. Assess their impact on talent strategies.
  • Serve as Strategic Counsel: Act as a strategic advisor and thought partner for the SVP Talent and leadership team, both during strategy projects and on an ongoing basis.

Skills Planning & Technology Enablement in Talent Practices

  • Forecast Skill Needs: Predict future skill requirements and make investment decisions to support organizational growth.
  • Adopt Innovative Technologies: Promote the use of advanced technology platforms, such as AI, automation, and talent systems, to improve scalability, personalization, and the effectiveness of talent solutions.

Employer Branding & Talent Marketing

  • Manage Global Employer Brand: Oversee the global employer brand and employee value proposition (EVP), leading external talent marketing initiatives to position the bank as a top employer in competitive and diverse markets.
  • Collaborate with Key Teams: Work closely with Talent Acquisition, Executive Talent Acquisition, Marketing, and Communication teams to protect and enhance Scotiabank’s employer brand globally.

Business Management & Operational Oversight

  • Oversee Financial Planning and Risk Management: Manage financial planning, HR risk management, and internal communications for the SVP Talent. Ensure strong governance, compliance, and operational excellence across all initiatives.
  • Organize Strategy Offsites: Assist in organizing strategy offsites for the SVP Talent to facilitate discussions on strategy implementation, planning, retrospectives, and ways of working.
  • Coordinate Strategic Communications: Assist the SVP Talent Strategy in communication and marketing efforts. Plan and organize internal and external events, ensuring consistent messaging across all stakeholders.
  • Support SVP Talent Agenda: Aid in the SVP Talent's initiatives, including Global Talent Strategy, value creation projects, strategic planning, HROC and OpCo communications, and act as a trusted advisor to the Leadership team.

Team Leadership and Stakeholder Management

  • Lead and Develop Team: Guide, coach, and develop a high-performing team, creating an inclusive environment that attracts, retains, and engages top talent.
  • Build Collaborative Relationships: Maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including senior leaders, to support the achievement of goals and objectives.
  • Enhance Team: Contribute to the growth of the team through recruiting, coaching, knowledge development, and championing ScotiaBond.

Skills

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? - We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • MBA, PhD or relevant post-graduate degree from a recognized institution
  • Background in Behavioral Science is an asset
  • 3–4 years of experience in a top consulting firm; banking industry expertise is highly recommended
  • Able to deliver results in a fast-paced, challenging, and dynamic business environment
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to manage ambiguity
  • Superior interpersonal skills, leadership and influencing capabilities on a multi-cultural environment
  • Self-motivated; ability to work both independently and collaboratively with multi-functional teams
  • Experience running complex projects, with large group of cross-functional stakeholders
  • Able to effectively manage relationships across the Bank, its partners, and external vendors
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Collaborative and proven track record of managing and developing high-potential talent
  • Excellent knowledge of MS products including Co-Pilot, Viva, Word, Excel, & PowerPoint

Working Conditions

  • Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
