Job Description
The Supervisor, Marine Personnel is accountable for the operations of the Marine Personnel team including crew scheduling, training, assists, personnel issues, and contract interpretation. The position ensures sufficient and qualified marine personnel are in place for the entire fleet operated 24 hours per day 7 days per week.
Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 7700 Hopcott Road, Delta.

What You’ll Do
- Controls scheduling of marine personnel ensuring the crewing levels for the fleet are fulfilled within the boundaries of union agreements. Resolves scheduling issues for dispatching crew and makes decisions on relief personnel assignment for vessels.
- Resolves discrepancies related to overtime timesheets. Reviews regularly the ‘lay day accounts’ reports and oversees the implementation of corrective measures during scheduling.
- Monitors performance evaluations and training requirements. Monitors all schooling related issues and ensures required certifications are in place. Implements corporate safety initiatives, conducts investigations and safety related training.
- Manages the training programs and collaborates with Port Captains/Port Engineers to ensure adequate resources are being trained and promoted.
- Monitors absenteeism levels and determines appropriate disciplinary and corrective actions ensuring sufficient and qualified crewing levels are always maintained.
- Supports full inclusion by embedding Justice, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles and practice into all recruitment, training, and career development initiatives.
- Evaluates and reports on the effectiveness of training, education, and career progression initiatives.
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant subject area (Business administration, commerce or marine operations preferred), or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in an Operations capacity.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in supervisorial level including experience with interpretation and application of union collective agreements and employer practices.
- Ability to lead and develop people through work.
- Ability to communicate clearly and consistently.
- Problem solving, conflict resolution and facilitation skills.
- Interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of the Canada Labour Code, Canada Shipping Act, and Marine Personnel Regulations (MPR).
- Understanding of payroll systems, processes and employee health and welfare plans including disability, entitlement, and eligibility.
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel).
- This is a full-time, permanent position.
