The Clinical Educator for ADCP will have a composite role consisting of a mix of days working as a Clinical Educator and ADCP RN. This role will be responsible for high quality patient facing care as well as staff education. The Clinical Educator is responsible for developing and delivering program-based orientation and clinical education, in accordance with Best Practices, to ensure a high level of clinical understanding and quality care in the District Cancer Program. The Educator will be a super user/mentor in EMR processes for Mosaiq and Meditech and be a liaison with our HSN counterparts. The Educator will work with the program’s leadership team to establish/develop standards of work, policies, procedures, and provide the on-going education around these workflows; including, approved Medical Directives. Matrix reporting will exist with primary contact to Manager of the Algoma District Cancer Program and secondary to Manager of Clinical Professional Practice and Education.

Duties
- Participates and collaborates with the Inter-professional health care team, to ensure the provision of patient care is consistent and collaborative across sectors of SAH, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary care models.
- Is familiar with and understands the safe and competent deliveries of chemotherapy per Cancer Care Ontario.
- Compliant with legislation, and organizational and departmental policies, standards, and procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge of best practices and for the delivery of oncology services, implementing improvements/changes as appropriate.
- Participates in ongoing quality improvement for patient safety and satisfaction, as well as legislative and accreditation standards.
- Ensures teaching, resourcing and coaching specific to the assessed learning needs of the inter-professional team within the Algoma District Cancer Program and SAH.
- Competent in the delivery of chemotherapy and management of adverse reactions as a required component of direct patient care.
- Provides assistance with mentorship planning for new orientating staff in collaboration with the assigned Registered Nurse.
- Attends and actively participates in all unit huddles and staff meetings for all areas of matrix reporting.
- Periodic coverage for the ADCP Team Lead as needed
- Contributes to Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives to improve the quality of cancer patient care.
- Plan, implement and evaluate clinical orientation for new hires.
- Support staff in achieving continuing education including higher learning and specialty certifications.
- Utilize a variety of teaching/learning/communication strategies to meet the education needs of the inter-professional staff.
- Maintain education records as required by hospital policy and standards.
- Participate in development of health teaching materials for delivery strategies to patients and families.
- Innovative with transforming current practices to digital workflow.
- Cover and support the education needs of other areas as needed.
- Collaborate with leaders on results of randomized audits to assist in analyzing the needs of the department from an educational perspective to help ensure College of Nurses of Ontario standards are met.
- Participate and collaborate with other healthcare providers in provision of patient care
- Effectively uses the Standards of Nursing Practice and the Nursing Process in accessing, planning implementing, and evaluating the care of the patient
- Provides assistance in planning corrective actions from an educational lens to ensure safety for patients and staff. Is compliant with legislation, standards and procedures related to occupational health and safety.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Current Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Certification in Oncology Nursing (CON (C))
- Completion of the deSouza Institute Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course
- Current BCLS certification
- Knowledge and skill in chemo and bio therapies, primary oncology nursing, and radiation clinic nursing; competency in theoretical and clinical application
- Minimum 3 years recent (within 2 years) Oncology Nursing experience in ADCP, including administering chemotherapy
- Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience in providing clinical education to interdisciplinary staff
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office software, Meditech and MOSAIQ
- Clinical competency in the management and care of Oncology patients and standards for Cancer chemotherapy nursing practice.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuing education within the past two (2) years with emphasis placed on courses/conferences related to Cancer Care standards.
- Knowledge of current Cancer Care standards outlined per Cancer Care Ontario with direct experience with Cancer Care and knowledge of related organizational models for service delivery.
- Ability to maintain successful working relationships; ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner, both in person and on the telephone; tact, courtesy and alertness in public contacts.
- Comfortable with change and coaching others through the process of change including knowledge transfer skills.
