Who are we looking for?

Our Waterloo and/or GTA offices are looking for a Lead Electrical Engineer to join the Engineering Design Organization (EDO) group. As a member of the multidiscipline design team, the Electrical Engineer will work on a broad spectrum of electrical aspects for multiple projects including new installations, upgrades of existing systems, testing, commissioning, and construction support. This person must have solid understanding of low and medium voltage power distribution design, motor control concepts and functionality, electrical system protection and control, standby power options and implementation, detailed design work, construction contract administration and support, and commissioning activities for water and wastewater treatment plants, industrial plants, solid waste and non-utility power generation plants in municipal and industrial sectors. Quick adaptation to different clients’ design standards, experience with working on pursuits, mentoring and coaching junior staff, developing team standards and managing client relations is a must.

In an ever-changing world, it requires creativity and innovation to stay ahead.

We’re seeking the curious, those who are stimulated by fresh thinking and a desire to shape our communities in new, positive ways.

Encourage innovative electrical engineering solutions across multiple complex projects in fast-paced environments.
  • Engineering Solutions Design: Design engineering solutions and the associated validation process to enable the realization of a design brief (for example, in terms of functionality, performance, aesthetics, and cost) that conforms to organizational and/or regulatory standards. Prepare detailed design drawing packages for projects including utility interconnection, LV/MV power distribution, motor control, standby power systems, fire alarm and security systems, grounding, instrumentation and control, and building services.
  • Engineering Standards Specification: Analyze information, draft engineering standards and specifications, and evaluate their effectiveness within the engineering discipline to ensure quality deliverables. Develop and implement electrical team standards and function as a technical leader providing guidance for senior and intermediate engineers.
  • Process Design Engineering: Analyze information and specify methods, process steps, plant, machinery, and equipment required to design and continuously improve manufacturing or materials processes and systems. Complete and review electrical design calculations, protection and coordination studies, and electrical reports such as short circuit, arc flash, harmonics, and ground potential rise (GPR).
  • Knowledge Management: Develop policies and processes, create best practices, set up case studies, and deliver internal knowledge-sharing sessions to capture and share knowledge among colleagues on project/program outcomes and innovative practices. Provide technical review, quality control, and professional sealing of technical documents.
  • Installation Monitoring and Control: Translate installation monitoring and control policies into action plans, aiming to meet specified safety and efficiency outcomes while guiding the wider business. Support during tendering and construction by responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, evaluating reports, completing site inspections, preparing testing plans, and participating in project meetings.
  • Technical Developments Recommendation: Discuss and recommend more complex or innovative technical developments to improve the quality of systems, applications, or infrastructure. Provide coordination of electrical system designs with other disciplines (process, mechanical, civil, structural, etc.), vendors, and external design teams.
