Roberts Onsite’s Mechanical division is searching for an analytical and collaborative professional that can contribute strong estimating skills to our team. The Mechanical Estimator position is located at our head office in Kitchener, Ontario and reports directly to the Mechanical Manager.

You possess the ability to meticulously analyze project requirements and specifications using your trade and technical knowledge, while strategically identifying process and cost improvements that lead to strong, successful bids. You have superb organizational and time management skills that ensure efficient workflow and timely delivery of estimates. Your excellent communication skills foster effective collaboration with clients, subcontractors, and team members, ensuring clear understanding and connection throughout the estimation process.

The Role And Essential Job Functions

  • Prepare estimates of materials, labour, equipment and sub-trades costs for construction projects based on contract bid documents, quotations, schematic drawings and specifications;
  • Review and advise on project tendering procedures, examine and analyze tender documents and recommend tender awards to suppliers and sub-trades;
  • Participate in site review, tender review and tender hand-off;
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors;
  • Liaise, consult and communicate with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers;
  • Work with our in house trade groups on multi-trade estimates;
  • Act with the best interest of Roberts Onsite at all times;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in estimating-related duties, preferably on, Industrial, Commercial or Institutional projects;
  • Education to include certification in mechanical estimating, construction program or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related experience;
  • Knowledge and understanding of estimate closing procedures, mechanical design interpretation, and construction processes including other trades and civil construction.

Software

  • Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project) and Bluebeam;
  • Accubid or Autobid estimating software an asset, but will train;
  • AutoCAD, Revit, or Navisworks an asset.
