We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Quaternary Geologist to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will be a recognized expert in Quaternary geology, with a strong focus on hazard mapping, drift prospecting, and fluvial geomorphology applied to projects in resource industry, government infrastructure, and land development sectors across Canada and beyond. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and business acumen, as the candidate will be instrumental in leading complex projects, mentoring junior staff, driving business development initiatives, and representing the company at industry conferences.

Minimum requirements:

This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and business acumen, as the candidate will be instrumental in leading complex projects, mentoring junior staff, driving business development initiatives, and representing the company at industry conferences.
Key Responsibilities
- Hazard Mapping & Assessment:
- Lead and execute surficial geological mapping projects to identify and assess natural hazards such as landslides, debris flows, subsidence, and seismic liquefaction potential.
- Develop and implement methodologies for data collection, analysis, and interpretation of surficial geological features relevant to hazard identification.
- Prepare detailed hazard maps, reports, and risk assessments for various clients and regulatory bodies.
- Drift Prospecting:
- Lead and execute surficial geology mapping projects to identify suitable sampling material and ideal sampling strategies.
- Design, manage, and execute drift prospecting programs for mineral exploration, including till sampling, geochemical and mineralogical analysis, and interpretation of dispersal patterns.
- Provide expert guidance on glaciogenic sedimentology and Quaternary stratigraphy to optimize exploration strategies.
- Fluvial Geomorphology:
- Conduct comprehensive studies of river systems, including channel evolution, sediment transport, flood plain dynamics, and river restoration projects.
- Apply geomorphological principles to assess environmental impacts, design mitigation measures, and support infrastructure development.
- Project Management & Technical Leadership:
- Manage multiple projects concurrently, ensuring adherence to scope, budget, and schedule.
- Provide technical oversight and quality control for all surficial geology deliverables.
- Develop and implement best practices and innovative solutions in surficial geology.
- Mentoring & Staff Development:
- Actively mentor and train junior geologists and technical staff, fostering their professional growth and technical capabilities.
- Provide constructive feedback and guidance on field techniques, data analysis, report writing, and project execution.
- Business Development & Client Relations:
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities in surficial geology, preparing compelling proposals and presentations.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients, understanding their needs and offering tailored solutions.
- Contribute to the strategic growth of the surficial geology practice area.
- Prepare and deliver high-quality technical presentations/papers at strategic conferences, workshops, and industry events that align with team interests.
- Assist with preparation of solicited and unsolicited proposals for new opportunities.
- Support cross-discipline project work (e.g., hydrogeology, ecology, contaminated sites).

Minimum requirements:
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field with a specialization in Surficial Geology, Quaternary Geology, or Geomorphology.
- Professional Geologist (P.Geo.) designation or eligibility for registration in Ontario or British Columbia.
- At least five years consulting experience.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in surficial geology, with a proven track record in hazard mapping, drift prospecting, and fluvial geomorphology.
- Demonstrated experience in leading projects and managing multidisciplinary teams.
- Prior experience in business development and client management.
- Experience managing consulting projects.
- Expert-level knowledge of surficial processes, sedimentology, and Quaternary stratigraphy.
- Proficiency in GIS software and softcopy photo-interpretation software (e.g., ArcGIS; DAT/EM Summit).
- Familiarity with Quaternary geology and geomorphology of Canada.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in English, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely.
- Proven leadership and mentoring abilities.
- Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.
