The Neonatology Program is recruiting candidates to practice as future Neonatal Nurse Practitioners through entry into the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) Trainee Program as an APN Intern. Successful candidates would be required to complete a Post-Master Neonatal Nurse Practitioner education program or a Master of Nursing - Neonatal Nurse Practitioner program.

As a future Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) (1.0 FTE Permanent), you will provide leadership and promote inter-professional excellence and collaboration in family-centred care within the five main role components of expert practice, education, consultation, research, and leadership/change agency in a dynamic clinical environment.

Here's What You'll Get To Do

  • Provide comprehensive health care for critically ill newborns and their families within the NICU
  • Integrate nursing and medical knowledge and skills within a broad scope of advanced nursing practice
  • Foster interprofessional collaboration in the coordination of plans of care
  • Provide relevant health education to families that is based on their needs
  • Provide leadership in planning for successful transition of infants leaving NICU (within SickKids, as well as to referral community hospitals)
  • Identify and link to services and resources in community, assist with acquiring specialized medical care for infants in the program, and participate/lead in planning for transition of care.
  • Provide specialty consultation regarding neonatal care for teams within and outside of the hospital
  • Provide leadership in advancing clinical practice and the provision of safe, high-quality family-centred care
  • Provide mentorship and coaching to support the development of nursing and interprofessional colleagues
  • Identify, integrate, and evaluate research-based innovations for improving patient care
  • Create, utilize and/or disseminate new knowledge using formal and informal channels

Here's What You'll Need

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressive neonatal intensive care nursing experience
  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario with general class in good standing
  • Successful candidates must secure enrolment in a Post-Master or Master of Nursing - Neonatal Nurse Practitioner education program
  • Eligibility for registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario within the RN - Extended Class
  • Leadership experience at the bedside and/or unit level
  • Ability to act as a change agent, and foster teamwork and consensus-building
  • Innovative critical thinking with excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of theoretical and conceptual frameworks and their practical application
  • Demonstrate commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion objectives
