Operations Manager

The Operations Manager is responsible for the overall coordination of Executive Millwork’s manufacturing and project execution. This role provides leadership across production, project management, drafting/engineering, and purchasing to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to the highest standards of quality.
The Operations Manager drives communication and alignment between departments, oversees schedules and workflows, and ensures drawings, designs, and purchasing decisions support efficient shop and site execution. This is a senior leadership role that combines strategic planning with hands-on operational oversight.
Key Responsibilities
1. Leadership & Oversight
- Directly oversee Project Managers, Drafters, Engineers, and the Shop and Site Foreman.
- Lead scheduling and coordination across all operational departments to align project deadlines with shop capacity.
- Foster collaboration and accountability between office, shop, and site teams.
- Support recruitment, training, and performance management of operational staff.
- Build a positive, solutions-driven culture that emphasizes communication and continuous improvement.
2. Project & Schedule Management
- Develop and maintain the master operations schedule, balancing shop workload with project deadlines.
- Review project timelines with Project Managers to ensure realistic and achievable commitments.
- Anticipate and resolve scheduling conflicts, resource shortages, or workflow bottlenecks.
- Monitor project progress and proactively address risks to delivery or budget.
3. Drafting & Engineering Oversight
- Review shop drawings, design packages, and engineering details for accuracy, buildability, and compliance with AWMAC/NAAWS standards.
- Ensure drafting and engineering outputs are clear, coordinated, and practical for both shop and site execution.
- Provide feedback and guidance to drafters/engineers to improve accuracy, efficiency, and consistency.
- Establish quality control processes for drawing reviews prior to release to the shop.
4. Purchasing & Resource Management
- Oversee the purchasing function to ensure timely procurement of materials, hardware, and subcontracted services.
- Evaluate vendors, negotiate pricing, and approve major purchase decisions in collaboration with ownership.
- Ensure material choices align with project specifications, budgets, and manufacturing best practices.
5. Operational Excellence
- Lead weekly production and operations meetings, ensuring clear communication across teams.
- Align resources and staffing to meet project requirements while maintaining cost control.
- Drive process improvements in project delivery, drafting standards, and shop performance.
- Promote Lean practices, efficiency gains, and reduced rework across all departments.
- Uphold company policies, health & safety requirements, and compliance with industry standards.
Requirements:
- 7–10 years of experience in architectural woodworking or related construction industries, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership/operations role.
- Strong understanding of project management, drafting/engineering workflows, and custom millwork manufacturing.
- Ability to review and interpret architectural drawings, shop drawings, and engineering details.
- Knowledge of AWMAC/NAAWS standards and their application in design and manufacturing.
- Experience with purchasing, vendor negotiations, and cost control.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
